I had surgery on Wednesday. The intent was small bowel resection. I had a CT enterography that showed "impressive thickening of 17cm of the jejunum/ileum consistent with Crohn's" according to the radiologist. The CT was done a month ago. The surgeon was not able to find anything abnormal during surgery so he did not even take a biopsy. He intends to repeat the CT enterography in July and says he may have to go back to surgery if it is abnormal again. I am not exactly happy about this. Why not biopsy the small bowel the first time? I feel like all this discomfort was for nothing.
The surgeon did say he thinks this still may be Crohn's since it is possible I was in a flare that subsided before surgery. Has anyone else heard of this happening or had this experience?
I am happy to not have needed to have part of my small bowel removed. I am happy he did not find lymphoma. I am happy there was no chronic changes to may small bowel. I am fearful this will end up with the GI saying everything is fine and I will move on with the pain and diarrhea that have been with me for a months with no answers. I was hoping for an answer and treatment to prevent future problems if possible.
I know you guys understand.
