After you had a resection, what meds did you start? How soon after surgery did you start the meds? How was it determined what med u start?

I saw my GI three months after my resection, the earliest appointment I could get.It was close to four months by the time I started Pentasa. He wanted to try something fairly mild like Pentasa first.I take 500mg twice a day,a pretty low dose.I also use medicinal cannabis. My GI is pretty current with the medicinal affects of CBD's and IBD and is fine with me using it.

I see him in two weeks for my six month follow up.

After one of my surgeries it was Humira after 3 months, another it was remicade after 2 months. Every GI and surgeon will have a different philosophy and approach bard on your disease activity and location.

I have been off medication since my resection in February, likely until November when the GI does a scope

When you are out of the hospital from surgery, and fully recovered, can you eat anything? For example, right now I could not eat popcorn at all, but is it possible after surgery? Just curious.

Medications - I continued with my normal crohns meds, Aziathropine and Pentsa. I am keen on prevention of a relapse, surgery on its own doesn't keep me well. Remicade post surgery has had very good results.
Food - I could eat anything after my last op, including popcorn. But not until about three months post op.

I recently asked a similar question. I had a small bowel resection in May. My GI strongly suggested I start Remicade soon, but also gave me the option of having a scope in 6 months and then starting if necessary (there is a 10% chance you can maintain remission). I asked about started at one of the meds lower on the spectrum, but he said that research doesn't support that if they never worked the first time. Apparently starting on Remicade gives you a 95% chance of maintaining remission.

As for the food...corn is horrible for you anyway, I will never chance it.

Haven't tried the popcorn, but then again I haven't has it since 1993ish. I pretty much eat anything I want now, although I was on low fibre leading up to the surgery due to a structure and on low fibre for 8 weeks after the surgery.
