How old do you have to be to have surgery or a stoma and do they do surgery on children. Because my daughter is 12 and i really dont want her to have surgery?

If medically necessary they will do surgery and create a stoma for children even younger than 12. There are babies with stomas. Usually doctors treat Crohn's in pediatrics patients aggressively with medication so that hopefully surgery can be avoided. Clash, Maya and mylittlePenguin can give you greater detail if you have specific questions. Hopefully your little one can avoid surgery. If surgery is being recommended, it is always best to get a second opinion to ensure that surgery is necessary.

Yes, I've heard of babies with stomas.

I agree though -- generally meds will be tried and exhausted before surgery is considered (unless of course, there is an emergency).

Does your daughter have Crohn's or UC? What meds is she on?
