Hi Everybody. As some of you may remember I posted awhile back regarding my Crohn's symptoms of feeling very bloated-distended-noisy stomach. After upping my Azathioprine to 200mg and placing me on 9mg Entocort for a few months my symptoms didn't really improve.

My GI then sent me for a small bowel follow through via Naso gastric tube which the result showed that my stricture had narrowed to the point that surgery should now be considered.

My next appointment I attened was with my GI consultant and a colorectal surgeon which they explained that surgery was my best bet. My surgeon told me that it will be done open and hopefully he will perform strictureplasty if possible and if not it will be a terminal ileum resection procedure.

I'm to go in hospital this Tuesday morning for the operation to happen Wednesday.

I'm getting somewhat nervous now and I'm really hoping that a planned surgery is the way to go. I will post again and give you an update after the op to let you know how things went.

Wish me luck

Thanks

Hey Spiceman,
I have had some surgery, i don't know if you have already but when i was going for my first i (pardon the pun) was shitting myself. I told myself to remember the facts of the situation. In short.....i am quite sick........and these highly skilled and experienced medical professionals are going to take the problem away....you must believe in them.

Good luck fella

Hope the surgery goes well Spiceman, let us know how it went when you get out of hospital. For everyone else waiting for surgery, I hope your time comes around quickly!

Going to see the surgeon today for the last time before surgery.
Any last questions I should bee asking???

Good luck to you both - we'll be thinking of you. Please let us know how it goes.

I have a followup on 10-Feb with my new GI to talk about the latest UpperGI pictures we took, which show what we all knew was going to be there.... light fluffy small intestine on one side; soft, billowy large intestine on the other side; and a length of thin, hard, straight, inflamed, scarred up intestine in the middle of it all. It might as well have been a piece of PVC piping :)

I'm not at the 'we need to cut that out of you again' stage yet, but I dont think I'm that far off either. Perhaps I'll join the ranks of the Surgery-2009 team with you guys!

Love
