Surgical Complications Anyone?

I had a resection of my terminal ileum and had 12 inches of fibrotic intestine removed last week, which was better than we expected. I still have an additional 12 inches of inflamed intestine but my surgeon said those areas were pliable and soft and he did not feel the need to remove it. I had 7 SBO since March, had never had anything like this prior, other than D (that responded well to Imodium) and pain, cramping all the time. The surgery was laparoscopic and everything seems to be going well. I am up and about as normal with very minimal pain, but I am having diarrhea, still, which I also expected since resection is quite insulting to the gut. Will this diarrhea stop? I did not have my IC valve removed, per my surgeon. I also had to take 4 huge potassium pills yesterday for a slightly low K due to the 6 month stent on pred, and two of them were whole in my toilet this morning and I took them around lunch yesterday? :eek2: Has this happened to anyone before? Anyways, has anyone experienced any complications and what should I watch out for? Everything seems to be going so well, which has been a big turnaround considering the last six months.

Hello. I also had the same surgery in July. I had 12 inches of lg intestine removed plus the terminal ileum. However my complications were much different. I could not go to the bathroom after. I was told from my surgeon that loose stools were normal until your body gets used to itself again. Intestines hate to be touched. Mine didnt work at all until 2 weeks later. 14 days in the hospital, fevers, 2 surgeries in 3 days- mine were not expected to "wake up" like the normal surgery bc of my complications, but yours seems to be pretty normal. Now I have occasional diarehha. Hope you feel better
