that time of the month

Anyone have any advice on dealing with your menstrual cycle? Mine seems to be terrible these past few months. Don't know if it is due to meds or crohns. Any advice would be great since pain meds aren't an option.

I'm taking Ortho tri Cyclen. The pill is known to reduce the number of days you have your period, the flow amount and the pain. I was originally put on the pill as a teenager to help with the pain because I'd always have to leave school cause the pain was so bad I'd be vomiting. Are you on anything like the pill, IUD, shot etc.?

Other methods that can help with pain are hot water bottles (which also apply a little pressure), heating pad, eating chocolate (cocoa is a know natural pain killer) etc. I'd also suggest a trip to your OBGYN to get things checked out and make sure everything is all right in there. For me its normal for my period to make my Crohn's symptoms worse but if you are noticing that its been A LOT worse the past few months then you should have a doctor check it out for sure.

I was put on the Pill aged 14 cos I was always sent home from school vomiting etc too!
I'm with Crabby on this, get your gynae to check for endometriosis.
I was diagnosed with this which exacerbated my symptoms. At the time I didn't know I had Crohn's.
I was in agony during ovulating and menses, and eventually had a laparoscopy which found endos.

Heating pad for sure.

I knew some stretches that I used to so when my pain got bad. Some were just back stretches and upper thigh stretches - my pain was so bad my legs hurt down to my knees some times.

The best stretch was a side stretch - stand next to a wall, put your hand flat on the wall, lean in with just your hip and you should feel a nice stretch that helps with the pain.

I would also get checked for endomitriosis as I was found to have a raging undiagnosed case of it when they did my emergency hysterectomy - apparently a part of my small intestine was attached to my uterus by the adhesions from it - who knew?? Just thought I was one of the unlucky ones with crappy periods.

Make sure you emphasize how bad the pain is or doctors may not realize how bad off you are - don't be stoic or downplay your discomfort.
