Hi my name is Paul and I'm from Newcastle. I'm new to this site but I've had Crohn's disease for 20 years now.

This topic may have been covered before but I'm just feeling my way around the site at the minute so forgive me if this is a repeat of an older thread.

I'm on Humira and I'm quite prone to chest and throat infections. When I do get an infection my gut always gets a lot worse with increased diarrhoea and stomach pain. I was wondering if anyone else experienced a worsening of their condition if they picked up an infection?

Thanks

Hi Janaway
I haven't experienced a chest infection since being diagnosed with CD last year. As we are both in the same part of the world, I just wanted to say Hello and welcome to the forum 😊

I have done nothing but cough since i was on humira. i also had swine flu at the same time though and this chesty cough, which is severe, has been with me around 3 years. i came off the humira after some months as my throat swelled up and i couldn't swallow anything for quite some days after injecting. others swear by how good humira is. Yes, my crohns is still very bad, but i don't know whether its the cough

Hi Janaway73 and welcome to the forum! :D

I took Humira for about 3 months until I had to stop it due to recurring upper respiratory infections that would last up to the next injection. I don't know the exact number but this does happen to some people. I've switched to Remicade and haven't had the same problem so far but I only just started it in January of this year.

In general when I have a cold, upper resp infection or flu I do tend to get diarrhea but it goes away once I'm feeling better. Diarrhea is listed as a possible symptom for an upper respiratory infection: http://www.medicinenet.com/upper_respiratory_infection/page3.htm

Hi everyone, thanks for the warm welcome. Don't know why I didn't join this site ages ago. Mind you me and technology don't really mix. Thanks for doing that David, it's reassuring to know im not alone.:ysmile:
