Well, the diarrhea's largely cleared up (for the most part). I usually start out the day with a few mostly firm ones, with three or four more softer ones.

Recently, they all seem to be narrower in circumference than normal though. Like, maybe the width of a finger. I'm also spending more time and energy on the pot.

Something to be concerned about?

I have the same issue on the rare occasion I have formed stools. Do you find you have a hard time pushing it out? It may be that your anus area can't open as much as it used to. I'm pretty sure that's what my problem is.

It is also a sign of partial obstruction. The first signs of partial or full obstruction is overactive intestines (would translate as D or gas) then later narrowed stools, constipation, and bloating.

Though keep in mind narrowed stools are experienced by people with normal bowels, and normal bowel habits. It is usually abnormal when accompanied by other signs and symptoms.

I always have the same problem when in periods of remission.
I also have a very tight sphincter muscle (the one that opens from the anus) which is what I always feel is the problem.
My GP tried to do an examination a couple of years ago, and he could barely get his finger in.

I think that after so many years trying to hold on for the bathroom, the muscle is much tighter than normal, therefore it doesn't open as much.
Logging on to the sewer superhighway is never a nice experience at this time!!

On a lighter note, when I see what my 2 yearold deposits into the toilet, my eyes water. I could never pass what he does.

I get this from time to time as well and I've never had an obstruction or stricture/narrowing with my CD, although I do have IBS as well and I know this can be a common complain for IBS too...always report any changes to your doc just to be on the safe side.

:)

I saw my family doctor today and mentioned it to him. He seems quite concerned about it, debating whether to prescribe Flagyl. This reluctance is because I am still waiting to see a Gastroenterologist, and it's hard for him to proceed without having a picture of my insides.

Johnny, isn't Flagyl an antibiotic? I normally get it for my abcesses and fistula.
How would that help with an obstruction?

Obstructions can be caused by inflammation alone. But I am betting his doctor isn't going on the suspicion it is a complete obstruction. If he was really concerned of that possibility he would have ordered tests or sent him to the hospital. I think his doctor is thinking prevention of his situation worsening. He probably doesn't want the inflammation to get so bad that it completely obstructs his bowels.
