I am new to the diet, so it's way too soon for me to say that I'm a success story. But I have researched it extensively and I do think there is some good science behind the diet. I've been on it for about 3 weeks and I have noticed huge improvements.
Do you have the book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle? If not, I suggest that you pick up a copy. Make sure you visit the website, as they do have some great tips on there. If you think that sticking to the diet is going to be a challenge for you, start by cleaning out your cupboards. Give away the foods that you think will be enticing for you. Then go grocery shopping. The intro diet is fairly basic and to start with, you will need a whole roasting chicken, ground beef, carrots, and eggs. You can also pick up celery and onions (although you won't be eating them during the intro, you can use them to make the chicken stock). Some people are able to eat dry curd cottage cheese and drink 100% Welch's grape juice on the intro. I eliminated these, as they were causing me problems. Part of the diet is finding out what works for you and the SCD does need to be tweaked to each individual. The SCD uses the homemade yogurt extensively, but I've discovered that I can't handle any dairy at all.
Also, don't be frustrated if you don't notice immediate results. Commit to the diet for at least 30 days and you should see improvement in that time. It may take quite a while for all of your symptoms to resolve completely from what I've read. I was getting very frustrated after a week because I was still having diarrhea. I read the book again and realized that it doesn't promise diarrhea will resolve immediately. At this point, I'm still having diarrhea, but it is slowly decreasing in frequency. I'm down to every other day and it is becoming more formed. Don't forget that intro diet should only be followed for 5 days maximum. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.
