Just wondering about people's TPN experiences. I had found a thread from 2012 but wondering if there was anything more updated.

I'm on pred and I'm so afraid of this, I'm afraid because throughout this ordeal nothing has gone "right", so what would make me feel like this will be ok? I'm afraid of infection and death. I know that sounds extreme, but I'm so afraid.

Any info would be appreciated.

Severe Crohn's throughout entire digestive tract, UC, esophageal candida
On stelara, pred, fluconazole

Mine was not the best experience on TPN but everyone is different . You said you were on prednisone and were afraid. I have been on prednisone more than once and have been fine. Sending support.

Did your doctors tell you that you have to start tpn ???
Typically they start enteral nutrition first (formula only or tube feeds..)
Or add a maintence med to keep Crohns calm then wean prednisone

Yes, my blood work is bad enuff, I'm just dropping weight everyday. My body won't absorb any nutrients. My guts are in such bad shape all the way thru the large and small intestine, I'm assuming trying to give them a rest. I tried the elemental diet hoping I could absorb some nutrients before even hitting my guts but it's too little too late.

I had tpn for 8 weeks through a picc line i was on it for 18 16 and then 8 hours a day had no issues I put on like 10 kg's and had zero issues. My advice is if you keep everything clean get the dressings changed regularly you will have no problem

Was the formula amino acid based ?
Vionex is one for adults
It only requires a few inches of healthy small intestine
And is used for folks who have short bowel syndrome from too much small intestine being removed by surgery

That said I know a few parents whose kids had tpn
Prior to surgery
No real issues
Even we're able to be at school while on tpn

Hugs

I'm very anxious too when i'm on prednisone.

Talk to your doctor and give medication and nutrition some more time to work.
