Tell me about your open bowel resection incision
My doctor utilizes a transverse incision for open bowel resections. My incision is to the right and below my belly button and is about 4-5 inches long. He said it might have been shorter except for the location of my fistula. Also, I have no stitches that need to be removed. Doc said he used a running absorbable stitch just below the skin as well as in the deeper layers. Although I still have steri strips, the incision itself is a very thin line.
At my post op visit (10 days after surgery) he asked if he could photograph the incision for a presentation and a paper he is working on explaining the benefits of a transverse incision.
Has anyone else had a transverse incision? I wonder what the pros and cons are.
