Hi All -

I'm traveling to Cancun/Playa Del Carmen/Possibly Cozumel Mexico in March for work. While we'll be in a good area for most of the trip (Playa Del Carmen) it is advised that I get a Hepatitis A & B immunizations, as well as Rabies and Typhoid. I just want to make sure i'm covered since i'm on Humira, but i'm not sure how the immunizations will affect me.

Has anyone had these immunizations before? Thanks!

As long as all of them are deactivated immunizations which they should be anyways you should be ok. Certainly mention it to your doctor but I think it's better to be safe and follow precautions.

Take your own bottled water with you even if you get immunizations. We strayed from this at a nice little restaurant in Playa del Carmen and my whole family ended up with the runs. Nothing too serious, but it does take out some of the enjoyment of it all.

I was in Mexico City last week - one suggestion I never heard of before was to brush teeth with bottled water and not have ice in drinks or salads that may have been washed with tap water

I've been there 5 weeks and was never sick. I did receive the shot you mentionned but I was not on humira at that time. I would nearly never go to restaurant, I'd buy my food in markets and I would let my fruits and vegetable soak in a preparation of water with aquatabs (or any water treatment solution). Then I would peel them (never too safe). The few times I ate in restaurant never caused me any issue but like Sailor said, avoid ice in drinks and stay close to bottled water (or any not so healthy coca-cola drinks which are safe too...).

I've came to realise that my main issues when I go south are the buffet and the pools...

Also, if you can get a prescription of cipro, it is always a good thing to have on hand if you are to catch a travelers diarrhea. It can even be taken in prophylaxis if your physician finds you are at risk.
