trying not to breathe-a breeze could blow me away...

I have been on Humira for a few months and am feeling better, but I'm still losing weight (14 lbs. since February) and my doctors don't know why. I just have no appetite whatsoever. I am also on 6-MP, B-12 shots, Imodium, and now Prednisone has been added in an attempt to stimulate my appetite. I'm down to 131 lbs., but Prednisone makes you feel like hacking your own arm off, and I feel that way enough already.Besides, it affects the effectiveness of the several other medications I take for Bipolar Disorder and PTSD, which totally blows. Is anyone else on Humira having trouble gaining or retaining weight?

Hi ghostlizard and welcome :) I've copied your poll to our Humira forum here as I think you'll get more responses to it there. I'm leaving this copy so we can all welcome you.

Again, welcome!

Hi and welcome! I am not on Humira, so I can't offer any insight. However, I hope your doctors can figure out why you aren't able to put on weight soon. Is your current treatment plan at least being effective in keeping your Crohn's in check?

Hello Ghostlizard. Welcome to the family.

Yikes! PTSD and Bipolar Disorder are enough by themselves to make you want to hack an arm off. But please don't do that. My hubby suffers from PTSD, as well. And he has a few people in his family that are Bipolar. I know how tough it is. And hey, let's throw Crohn's into the mix!

Stick around a bit ~ don't blow away ~ and get to know the forum. I think you'll find a ton of support here.

I have been on Humira for one year. It has not changed my appetite. It has put me in almost a 'clinical remission' and I have gained and maintained another 15 pounds!

Perhaps it is 6MP changing your appetite?

There Tincture of Opium or Marinol maybe less toxic to be prescribed and swallow than Pred. Pred should help, but it lost its ability to stimulate weight or appetite with me unfortunately.

best wishes

Thanks for asking, and yes...I feel great, my labs are good, but I'm still losing weight. I can't do Remicade anymore, but I was up to 176 lbs. when I was on that, and since they're both TNF blockers I expected the same results.

Thanks for your reply, bjeffrey. I think its interesting that you mention Marinol because my Dr. suggested it, adding "the real thing works better." Well as a kid I smoked the stuff like it was going out of style, but when I quit for 6 years I was hospitalized several dozen times (and I had avoided that until then). Alas, even the wacky tobacc-ey doesn't give me the munchies at this point. You could be right about the 6-MP, though...thanks for the tip!:thumright:

I just wanted to thank everyone who was kind enough to reply. I'm having a CT scan on Thursday because of the unexplained weight loss, but I'm thinking it may be that my weight has dropped due to food access issues having to do with my disabled status. When I started losing pounds in April I also lost some funding, and my newly austere diet may be the answer. I'll know more after the CT. I hope everyone had a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving, and that the rest of the holiday season is at least as good for all of us.
