Ulcerated Stricture - updated after GP appt

I am back from my colonoscopy and it shows an "ulcerated stricture at the neo-terminal ileum".

This is where i had my re-section 3 years ago.

Any ideas on what this means ?

I am having a barium x-ray before i see the consultant in July and they also took 4 biopsies today.

Is there dietary considerations for a stricture ?

Thanks
Clare

----------------------------------------------------------------

Went to see my GP today - just to ask about reducing the steroids.

He has frightened the life out of me !!

He said a stricture is really serious and has given me a list of symptoms that are urgent and need medical assessment.

He got me to have a blood test and also rang my consultant to sort my meds out - they are taking me off prednisilone and pentasa and putting me on budesonide and metronidazole (this one for 8 weeks) - i am also to see the consultant urgently to go onto azathiopine.

He was really serious about it all and it is now hitting home how bad this flare up is - he also said he is unsure as to if i will be able to go to Bulgaria in 10 weeks time.

Sorry to go on but this is the worst flare up i have had and i am scared.

Try not to eat anything that could get stuck in the stricture. Thats stuff like nuts and seeds and stuff similar to that. I don't know what an ulcerated stricture is but it's probably a stricture with an ulcer or something like that. Good luck

Hi FL,

A stricture can be a band of fibrous tissue that is stretched across the gut or it can be narrowing of the gut due to thickening or swelling of the tissues due to inflammation.

The fact that it is ulcerated means your crohns is active. The barium will give them an more external view of your gut and where any other narrowings/strictures are that could not be seen or reached by the scope.

Does that help? I am waiting for appointments for both tests again to review my status after the remicade for a year now and help decide which direction treatment wise they will take me.
