I started having bleeding problems January of 2008.
Went to the doc 4 months later.
Did colonoscophy in May and the doc who operated on me said its likely crohn's.
Took about 2 months of pills during 2008.
Had a huge flare up in august due to eating to much peanut butter sandwiches. I like to workout:) gain weight.
It went away after two weeks so I didn't go to the gi clinic early october I think my visit was for, late october it came back.
Early december I called for a appointment to the GI.
Jan 4th I went in and was told it was Colitis.
I'm on Mesalamine & folic which I started taking today.
30day supple of Folic and 480 pills of mesalamine 4 times a day.
Next visit is on April 4th.
I don't know if I should call the doc if I run out of pills before then, I didn't do the math in my head yet.
Lost 10lbs I found out yestarday. Mostly due to not workingout and dealing with a death I think. Not stomach problems.

I'm ok knowing I got something now.
Well, a little.
Had my bro past two weeks ago, last thing we talked about was me having this issue with my stomach and if it turns out I have something, I will deal with it.
Not to worried, which he was a lot.
So promise kept, I will deal with it.
I won't complain.

sorry to here about your bro and i think it would be ok to complain a little it might help get it off my chest . hope you start feeling better and get more pills on time

:welcome: swirl...It's okay to complain...Sometimes you need to let it out. I'm sorry for your loss. You are dealing with a lot of issues right now. This is a great place for support.

Definitely renew your meds!!! If they are not helping you, get into see the doctor before April. This disease can be harder to treat the longer it goes unchecked...Good luck. I hope you feel better.

Thank you everybody. I actually got two subscription refill papers, I almost threw out. So I do have refills.
I started taking it tuesday, I'm still waiting for it to work.
Yeah I guess its ok to complain about it a bit.
I do get that pain in lower belly and pain in my butt a lot. Especially when I go.

Hi Swirl,

I am a new member as of yesterday and your post caught my eye! Recently, I was told the opposite diagnosis of what you have been told. Since 1996, I was diagnosed as having ulcerative colitis and after a major flair-up in July, food & drug intolerances I have never experienced in past flair-ups, losing 50 lbs, & a colonoscopy that showed an extremely inflammed & ulcerated colon with granular mucosa, perianal fistula & skin tag, my GI now thinks I have Crohns.

Two of the best things I have done to help my condition is getting a comprehensive stool test & blood food allergy test ordered by my naturopathic doctor from a speciality lab in Georgia (stool test) & Seattle (food allergy test). Once I had that information and saw that I had no parasites, candida, pathogenic bacteria, etc and started eating non-reactive foods, the bleeding stopped and I would only go to the bathroom 1-2 times/day vs 12 times/day w/ blood if I eat reactive foods. I have found even a few non-reactive foods bother me due to fiber content (ie. raspberry & strawberry seeds, but I tolerate raspberry & strawberry juices well). If I stick to this diet, I feel fine. When I eat a reactive food and start getting stomach pains, gas, & bloody diarrhea, I have found that consuming 2 TB of bentonite clay solution (I use Great Plains) in 8 oz of water gives me relief. To learn more about using clay for healing, visit http://www.aboutclay.com . I first learned about using clay from "Restoring Your Digestive Health" by Jordan S. Rubin.

What I try to do each day is take a complete multivitamin, 1 TB Lecithin 2X, 1/2 tsp L-Glutamine Powder 2X, 1 TB Ezorb Calcium 2X, 1 tsp pure Fish Oil 2X, & 400mg Folic Acid. I also give myself 1ml shot of B-12 each week since my body does not assimilate B-12 from foods or vitamins. To further help get my Crohn's into remission, I am going to start taking low dose naltrexone. For more info, visit http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org, http://www.ldnresearchtrustfiles.co.uk/docs/2009.pdf and watch the video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRI5f69N2eo&feature=related .

If you should decide to try LDN and you doctor refuses to prescribe it, contact a Walgreens that offers LDN and ask them what doctors have sent them prescriptions for it. I did this yesterday after seeing the suggestion to contact pharmacies on one of Dan Bergy's post. Now I have the option of going to a backup doctor who will prescribe LDN if my GI refuses to.

Thank you idahogirl. I will look at all that infomation you wrote.
The next appointment I have is on april 4th or april 5th.
I wonder why so long....
I will have to start doing my research and I will with the info you wrote.

Thank you Swirl for your kind reply! I see you are from NY. When you look at the info on LDN, you will find that a lot of the clinical trials has been done & is being done in NY & PA.

Ok thanks, that's good news for me, I'm in Long Island.
The colonoscophy doctor wrote that its likely Crohn's Disease and there were stuff he skipped and found in me like a lot of ulcers and others that I have on paper, I gotta look for.
Famotidine 20MG is what I was given at the time since I wasn't a GI patient.

:welcome: Swirl!! The length of time on the appointment may be them giving your meds time to work (or not - so they can see if they need to try something new). If your symptoms don't improve much over a month or so - or get worse- I'd give a call back in to get your appt. moved up.

Thanks everyone!

Ok I was thinking today why it hasn't work yet, so it can take longer for it to work, ok I now know.

The Famotidine seem to work maybe 3 days after I took it?....I don't remember.

I have 480 Mesalamine pills (2 bottles) and 30 pills of Folic.
I hope I don't have a problem with either one of these pills. Its kind of weird to go on taking two different pills at the same time unless they're there to work with each other.

I forgot about diet to.
This thing is like a game you have to figure out:-( but I will try.

You are fine taking them together...Also the Folic acid can be purchased OTC.

It's a game alright...I hope you like challenges;).
