It's been a while since I posted so I thought I would update on DD's status.
After recent blood/stool tests showed inflammation was still not under control, DD's new GI decided it was time to get aggressive. She had an MRE before starting and the results of that showed active disease throughout her small intestine with thickening in several areas. So, a little over 2 weeks ago she had her first loading dose (4 injections . . . OUCH!) and last Friday she had her second and final loading doses. Now we are on to the regular bi-weekly injections. DD has been feeling great since starting Humira. We have our fingers crossed that this drug will be her ticket to remission. And, I'm thrilled that we are finally starting to talk about weaning her off the steroids.
So, that's where things stand right now. We will do bloodwork at her next appointment in 6 weeks to check Humira levels as well as for the presence of antibodies. It was a hard decision to put her on a biologic but if it puts her in remission (or even close) it will be worth it.
