Today we got Kians fecal calprotectin result which was 600. His ibd team are happy with this as he has been doing and feeling so well recently so they are not concerned at all. If it was in the thousands they said they would investigate but so far so good. xx

So glad to hear you got the result back!! Has he had other FC tests to compare it too?

I know when C was in the hospital and his FC was done and level at 300 the PA and on call Ped GI wasn't concerned, either. Since his last FC(several months before was 1700) and also due the fact that they did a colonoscopy and MRE and the FC level was in line with what they saw. His Ped GI said he wanted to see better but it was trending downward and we'd keep testing FC for quite awhile since it seemed pretty accurate in relation to what was seen visually.

I think it is a baseline if nothing else. Jaedyn's FC was in the 600s when we started and treatment brought it down to the 30s. It may be different with different kids depending on what all involvement they have going on?

Thanks for the update dodie!

So good to hear your lad is doing well! :dusty:

So is 600 not dangerously high?? I have been on a different site and someone said they would be very concerned with that result, its got me worried now so I thought I would get back to you guys for input. I trust kians ibd team 100% and I know they would take no risks. x

As long as it's heading in a downward trend.
600 is still elevated but with an IBD'er it's not extreme.
Active flare is in the 1000's I've read on here.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

Thankyou for putting my mind at ease, I wish I hadn't posted on that other site now, im just about to go to bed an I know I wont sleep, arghhhh!!! lol

Sarah's highest reading has been 620 and resulted in her second course of pred. She has mainly small disease where the numbers are lower.

Note first test was 520 so they acted on a rising number.

It is all relative dodie. :ghug:

For kids with IBD it is brilliant if they get to levels you expect in the normal population but sometimes the docs need to tweak what is normal when it comes to something like IBD.

So around 300 would be considered a good result. From that to about 1,000 isn't bad per se and used in the context of previous results may well be a good sign, as in a downtrend of numbers. So if it is considerably less than previous numbers then is good. If not, then whilst not bad it needs keeping an eye on in case a flare is coming on.

Up into the thousands is not good. :(

^^^ yeah that
I freaked out when DS 's last FC was 243 .
Gi was happy since DS had a mild flare a month or two before that which he assumed would have had a number in the 1700's easy.

Now if he wasn't diagnosed with Ibd well then that is where the concern comes from.
Since the docs already know where it is coming from a whole different kettle of fish.
