Hi everyone,

First off, I'm new here so sorry if this question has already been asked and answered previously!

I've recently been diagnoed with Ulcerative Colitis and I'm currently playing with my diet to see what are safe foods for me to eat. I was wondering whether anybody knew whether being a vegetarian would impact on my condition. Would it be better for me to go back to eating meat or could I manage my UC whilst still being a vegetarian?

Thanks for your help everyone.

If you want you can for sure stay vegetarian while managing your UC. It may be hard in that a lot of vegetables are hard to digest or have lots of fibre but with some work it can be done. Tagging VeganOstomy

Thanks @FrozenGirl.

@Handshedown Keeping a food diary can help you find which foods are causing you trouble (if any). If raw fruits and veg are a problem, try them peeled, cooked, canned, blended, etc. There's a lot of ways to get fruits and veg down :)

If you like beans and legumes, either soak them overnight and slightly overcook them or go with canned. If that doesn't work, try mashing kidney beans into a dip or cream sauce, or make a hummus out of chickpeas.

It may also help to find a registered dietitian who understands IBD and vegetarian diets.

Good luck! :dusty:

Thank you so much! I'm starting to keep a food diary at the moment, but I'll definitely try your tips.

Thanks again.
