So…I really don’t know what to say. I talked to my Rhuematologist yesterday(who’s incrediably smart & a smart a**) & he said that there is no use in me starting 6MP/Imuran/Methotrexate because it won’t help me any & I’ve already made antibodies to my Humira. He said my only option is Cimzia. So I guess I’ll start that next Friday. I called my GI(He told me to call) & I got his Nurse practitioner. I told her I scheduled the ultrasound through my Rhuemy so my GI won’t have to worry about it. I told her my Rhuemy recommended Cimzia & she said “What’s that?” I said it was a biologic similar to Humira & she said “Your so smart! Do you know your like amazing for knowing all this?” I just said “I guess….” She then replied “Is it like a shot or pill? Spell it please.” I told her the spelling. She then talked to my GI & called me back saying “He’s never heard of it either but he okayed you. He said Humira isn’t helping you any.” WHAT THE FREAKING HECK?!?! I know my NP is infamous for miscommunicating but she sounded like my Dr. knew nothing about the ultrasound(of bililary tract & pelvis) either. IF HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT CIMZIA THEN HE’S GOING TO BE FIRED BY ME!!! I love him to death but WHAT THE HECK?!?! 1) He has no idea what it is ‘supposably’ & 2) He has no idea what it is but still okayed it for me? She asked me if I wanted to speak with him but I just said no because I was in complete shock!! I’m not calling back because I’m furious & have no idea what to say. I guess I’ll call him once I get the ultrasound results. BTW Nurse had no idea why I was taking antibiotics. I hate NP’s so much. Love his nurse, hate the NP. Not to mention I have what looks like a lovely abscess coming up my butt. Oh joy!

So, is this normal? 90% of my GI'S(Although this is the first GI treating my Crohn's) have had a cruddy relationship with their nurse so is this just something you put up with? My GI's knows his stuff so it kinda makes me curious whether he knows about Cimzia & the nurse got confused or if he actually doesn't know.

Sounds like you need a face to face appointment or a good long phone call with your GI. Certainly things get lost in translation but GIs are human and can mess up as well. I've been with my GI 28 years and he did two odd things in the recent past: I have an ileostomy and he asked me if my stool was formed :ybatty: and he didn't understand my pronunciation of tysabri so he insisted there was no such med. this guy is usually brilliant but he does make mistakes. Hope you can truly have a conversation with the GI soon.

I had some serious problems with the NPs and receptionists at my GI office. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my GI but I would call and never receive call backs... I was having stomach pains for a week and called 3 times and NEVER heard back. My doctor ended up getting me in right away after hours once I got through to him. At that appt, I talked to him about being in pain for at least a week and not hearing back and he said he would talk to the ladies about it because "he's had this problem before". Thankfully, things are a lot better now.

I would call and talk to your GI or make an appt because you need to get your meds sorted out for sure. good luck!
