I am now taking Vitamin Supliments, Probiotics and Entocort for my crohn's. This week I was given Omega 3's to take on top of everything else. I understand that after taking meds one should wait at least 2 hours to take any supplements. I usually take my meds in the morning, probiotic at lunch and vitamins in the evening at supper, sometimes I alternate the probiotics and vitamins a bit. How would I incorporate Omega 3's in the picture? Actually, what I am trying to say is, in what order or time sequence do you take your supliments? Can you actually take them all at the same time, any patern I should follow?

With prescription medicines I follow the recommended dosage regimen.

Vitamins and supplements I consume at once -- first thing in the morning and to no ill effect. And I take quite a few, as many as 12 different ones.

I take my Krill Oil (Omega 3) with meals. I also take Multivitamins, Turmeric, Ginger and Magnesium with meals. Usually all at one time.

The theory behind this is vitamins and minerals do not occur in nature in an isolated form. There are many other compounds, enzymes, bioflavenoids that normally are present with these vitamins and minerals. By taking these with food, it should help to absorb the supplements. If they need these additional substances to be absorbed, the food should help provide them.

When I took probiotics, I took them on an empty stomach with a glass of water. Your stomach acid will destroy much of the probiotic before it ever gets into your intestinal tract. If you have food in your stomach, the probiotic will sit in your stomach much longer than on an empty stomach.

The stomach has a mechanism in which it will allow liquid to pass through rather quickly if food is not present. By taking the probiotic with water, I figure it will spend a minimum of time in the stomach and allow more to survive the trip to the intestinal tract.

I do not think this is the recommended way, but I go with what makes sense to me. Unless someone can give me a reason to do it a better way.

out of curiosity what vitamins and probiotics are you taking?

One each of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B12, Glucosamine, Milk Thistle, Zinc, Iron (Ferrous Sulphite), Folic Acid, Flax Seed Oil, Fish Oil, Multi-Vitamin, and Ginseng.

Three Garden of Life Primal Defence probiotics.

I also consume a probiotic yogurt and an energy bar.

You have had CD for 30yrs? My daughter is on Asacol and has had it since 15yrs old she is now 26. I would like to know if you have had any pregnancies and are you on anything special?

I take Nature's Bounty Probiotic Acidophilus. One pill a day preferably with a meal and refrigerated after open is what is said on bottle. I take it with dinner and it put my colitis into remission. Ive taken two others which wanted me to take on a empty stomach. one stopped working. Just follow the directions on bottle.
