Hi everyone. I'm new here.

About a month ago I started having diarrhea daily, accompanied by horrible nausea every time I hate. Like I break out in cold sweats and feel like I'm going to pass out. Also almost no appetite. I've lost 14 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks. Went to the doc after 10 days of it and he had me do a 3 day stool sample. Everything came back negative. I had a colonscopy and endoscopy done on Friday. He didn't see any clear evidence of Crohn's, which is what he was thinking I had. So he did a bunch of biopsies and I get results Friday. Is it possible I have Crohn's even though my colonoscopy was "normal"? I'm sooo miserable. I hate eating cause I feel so sick. And I'm soooo tired of the diarrhea.

Sorry it took so long for a response but just wanted to say there is still a possiblity of CD if it is located higher up than a colonoscopy has the ability to see, higher up in the small bowel. Sometimes an MRI, Small Bowel Follow Through or capsule endoscopy can be used to find inflammation in the small bowel.

well GI doc finally came in and said that all my biopsy showed self limiting colitis. He does not think my crohn's is very active right now. Kinda confused since I still have loads of daily d's also but he did say that my urine looked horrible so most of my pain might be coming from the UTI. I now have a foley cath in place and I must say I do feel better. I have not had a SBFT and am going to ask for one of those as well.

Thanks Clash. I also had an endoscopy done. I know that can see part of the small bowel? Is there a section not able to be visualized by both tests?

Thanks so much!

SARAH4CC an endoscopy looks at teh esophogus and stomach and i believe the upper part of the small bowel. as far as I know the only test that can see the entire small bowel is either the small bowel follow through which is a series of x-rays that follow barium chalk through your track, or the pill cam which is a camera pill you swallow and it transmits 1000's of pictures to a monitor you wear on your waist, the pill is finally past through a bm like the next day.

I may be a little off on the details but there is better information on the forum under the test for IBD section.

You could also have something like microscopic colitis, which can only be seen in biopsies. Nothing would be visible to the doc during the c-scope.

well biopsies were all normal. Not celiac, not microscopic colitis, no Crohns' in the biopsy. He prescribed an anti nauseant for the weekend and wants to see me Monday. He asked about family history of gastrointestinal stuff and I don't know it cause I'm adopted. So who knows. Guess I"ll ask about the capsule endoscopy if he doesn't mention it. I just want to feel better! And to like food again!!!!

Hang in there! I hope that you get some answers soon. It is so frustrating to not know what is going on.

If you haven't yet, do some research into dietary methods of treating GI disease. Since you're undiagnosed, it certainly can't hurt. Check out the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and the GAPS diet. Good luck.

So I saw my GI again on MOnday. My abdomen is still tender, I've lost more weight, etc. So he sent for a small bowel series x ray with barium. Went today. Oh the barium was HORRIBLE. And made me sooooo nauseous. Only took 20 minutes for it all to go through. So I wasn't there long, which is nice. My doc prescribed Bentyl and told me to take it and eat, as he's worried about the weight loss. So I did tonight, and ended up curled up in bed for two hours with such bad nausea I thought I was going to pass out. And horrible pain.

Does anyone experience this kind of nausea with Crohn's? I just can't shake the feeling that I have Crohn's of my jejunum. I know something is terribly wrong, as I felt terrible all the time. And have always loved food and now hate it.

Hello...
I am really sorry to hear that you are suffering. If it makes you feel any better you should know that you are not alone, Everytime I have D or those ad pain, I just close my eyes and try to picture everyone of use here suffering the same way.

Currently I am waiting for my colono-biopsy. Just like you I had a normal colonscopy and endoscopy (just helicobacter which is ok). I have had D 6+ times each day for the last 3 weeks. I did fecal test, no blood found but calprotectin levels were positive. I wonder if you did the fecal calprotectin tests?

He is having me do another stool sample to recheck for giardia and to do fecal calprotectin. Didn't know what it was testing for till I googled it. Have yet to do my sample, as I have two small kids and getting it to the lab within an hour has proven challenging. I'm hoping tomorrow I'll be able to. Haven't heard the results of my barium follow through yet. I'm kind of afraid to call.

Well my barium study was normal, besides the fact that it went through me super quick. So I'm waiting on the fecal calprotectin results. I'm so frustrated. Still losing weight, and feel sick all the time.

The Bentyl helps with the pain a bit at least.

My doc says he prefers the barium follow through over the capsule endo or an MRI but I'm wondering if I should push for one of those? Especially if the calprotectin comes back high?

I would push for the PillCam. Usually Crohn's in the upper GI is found in children. Not adults. And when children do have upper GI Crohn's(like me)it affects a lot of other places, like the colon too. But it is possible. I lost 85 pounds last year in 8 months and that is WITH feeding tubes, appetite stimulants etc. I was never hungry & still am never hungry/always nauseated. I know how you feel. Trust me. Hope you get answers soon!! If the stool test comes back positive for blood/high inflammation you should push for the pill cam. Inflammation can be caused by bacteria/NSAIDS etc so it could not be crohns but better safe than sorry! Keep pushing till you feel better!

Thanks so much!!! Yeah I'll push for the pillcam if the stool sample results are funky at all.

I also realized he hasn't done any bloodwork, so I'll for sure ask for that. Anyone have tips on what tests he should be running? I know CRP, right?

My diarrhea has now turned into constipation, maybe because of the Bentyl. Don't know. But still soooo nauseous everytime I eat. Full body sweats and dizzy too. And definitely a feeling of not having finished when I go poo. Ugh, I just want to feel better!
