Hello everyone, I hope you're well.
Just a little moan/search for similar scenarios coming up.
I had my panproctocolectomy towards the end of last year which went well but then around two days after leaving UCH in London to return home (as an aside they sent me home with JUST paracetamol after a mess up in he pharmacy much to my obvious delight), I found myself in my local hospital with back end wound problems which lead to the fitting of a vaccuum dressing for a week.
So, this all went off seemingly well until after a month I was still in crippling pain from the back end wound, no appetite, not able to sleep, feeling constantly run down and the pain drugs I now had, namely codeine, not even touching it the only way I could get any relief was soaking in a bath & clearly that wasn't going to be a permanent fix!
So, through Christmas I kept quiet with this pain until I went for my outpatients check up in London in January, at which the surgeon, what I can only describe as, freaked out and admitted me immediately through A&E. As it turns out after MRI scans and an EUA, I had an abscess the size of a golf ball in there. After it was drained, cleaned etc I felt like a new woman.
I spent 2 weeks in hospital building myself back up, industrial antibiotics & having the wound packed daily (highly unpleasant I must say). I now see my nurse twice a week for wound reviews and clean outs while I wait for IGAP flap surgery to hopefully heal this wound as in the 7 months since surgery it hasn't!
Has anyone had the reconstructive/skin graft surgery here? Would love to hear from you!
Thanks for reading my rant as ever!!
