Was anyone else's surgery laparascopic and open?

My surgeon is going in laparascopically AND they are cutting me open 4-5 inches. Is that unusual? I thought they did one or the other. Maybe I'm different, they said it was real bad, but I don't know, but I'm curious if anyone else had both at the same time.

They said mine would be done laparoscopically but when I awoke they told me they had to cut me open to get in there and remove what they needed to. So ya, I had them both done at the same time. It's not unusual.

Same here. I went under expecting a few small incisions but woke up with about a five inch cut. It was too goobered up in there so they had to revert to open surgery instead.
