Recently diagnosed. I recieved 1 gm IV steroids yesterday andI couldn't sleep am finally took a Benedril at 1:00 and 2:00. Fell out at 4:00am.

I started on 60 r prednisone today. WOW Can you say Headache? Hope this gets better. I felt snappy with kids too but assume it was a lack of sleep.

Good news.. no bleeding today.

Prednisone can cause moodiness, sleeplessness, and lots of other "fun" side effects. For me, it caused sleeplessness, constipation, leg cramps, hunger, and steroid-dependent diabetes. The sleeplessness, constipation, and hunger all seemed to get better as I tapered down, and haven't been quite as bad with each time I've been on Prednisone. Not something you want to be on for very long if at all possible, but it really has been a miracle drug for me as far as stopping my symptoms.

Glad your bleeding stopped. Hang in there!!

Prednisone does suck, but it also often works.
Me- it has never affected my sleep or made me moody, but it has
given me bad heartburn, arthritis, indigestion, bloating and breakouts.
Let the fun times roll....
And I had the IV steroids as well. Tapering down orally now.

I like Prednisone. As long as you dont get the swollen face you'll probably like it too. Gives loads of energy and apetite, and makes you pain free. I think its a good medicine.

I enjoyed it also. I think it effects each person differently.

I was hoping for the more energy, but never got that. I did get the sleeplessness, the moon face, the other weight gain, and heartburn. I think for a brief time I got a little more energy, but when I "used" it up in about 2 hours, I crashed. On the up side, my achiness from fibromyalgia and other stuff went away!!! Now I'm down to 10mg and my feeling is definately coming back! ouch.

Prednisone does suck but it is does what it does really well for most people. Just take it easy and don't over do it. Try to stay as stress free as you can. I hope things start working well. Also, don't just stop pred as it can make things much worse than if you do the slow taper your doctor recommends. Best of luck

prednisone is an artificial high...it also masks the real symptoms happening in your body. So you can feel great but in reality you could be forming fistulas and have severe inflammation and the steroids will make you feel symptomless....its really a dangerous drug to be on when you have Crohn's...if you need to take steroids despite all the new treatments available you should consider surgery!

Surgery isn't an option for me, as my inflammation is too widespread. Steroids helped me get out of a flare several times in 6 years, and then I used other medications to continue those remissions for quite some time. It can really be a miracle drug.

Agreed. The purpose of medication is to PREVENT having surgery, which is
not a cure, as the crohn's redevelops elsewhere in time. While some people
need surgery because the medications don't work for them, most doctor's
goals is to keep you out of the operating room and in remission with medication
like Prednisone.
