I'm curious how many of you who have had a capsule endoscopy were first given a patency capsule test. From what I can ascertain, it's a vitamin sized capsule that is used to test to see if the pillcam is going to get stuck or not. If the patency capsule gets stuck, it dissolves, no big deal. I'm just curious how many of you have had this and what countries it is being used in.

Thanks!

I didnt no - and now i have a capsule pillcam stuck in my small bowel!

I'm in England but the north and from what i can find if you live in the south you get the test pill.

It's been stuck since January, is causing all sorts of mini blockage and im seeing the GI on Thu to see where we go next after an hour long colonoscopy with balloon inflation failed to reach far enough.

I'm in Australia and due to have the pillcam next week.. Despite the private GI advising the public GI that he suspects I have a TI stricture he has scheduled me for the pillcam without a patency pill first.. I am slightly shitting myself (pun intended ;-D)

I keep telling people to ask for a dummy pill... but I never had one offered by my GI. I have to say, I don't know if they all carry the dummy pills... I think they should, I guess it can't be insanely pricey and I'd be willing to pay a few buck of my own to make sure I avoid further problems...

I know this is an old post, but I took a patency capsule this week. Unfortunately, it's stuck :( so no pillcam for me. I don't know what they're going to want to do instead. I already had a ct enterography that doesn't show anything... I thought strictures that would keep the capsule from passing would also show up on the ct.
