Hi everyone - I was diagnosed last week with Crohns. I want to find the top Crohns treatment facility in the US and make an appointment to go see them to get a second opinion. Doing some google searches I found the Mayo Clinic which specializes in Crohns treatment. Are there other facilities that I should consider? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Dr David Hudesman at NYU Langone Medical Centre, NYC. They don't have a special Crohn;s treatment centre but Dr Hudesman is the head of IBD dept and he is amazing. They do have a separate infusion centre and they are really good!

In addition to Mayo already mentioned, off the top of my head:

Univ of California, San Diego IBD Center: http://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/gastro/areas-expertise/ibd-center/Pages/default.aspx
Mt. Sinai in New York: https://www.mountsinai.org/ibd-center
Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles: http://www.cedars-sinai.edu/Patients/Programs-and-Services/Inflammatory-Bowel-Disease-Center/
University of Chicago: http://www.uchospitals.edu/specialties/gi/ibd/index.html
University of Miami: http://medicine.med.miami.edu/crohns-and-colitis

These are all big hitters. And there are more besides, but this list should be enough to get you started.

I live in Houston and travel to Cleveland Clinic in Ohio to see the Best GI and Surgeon. Dr. Bo Shen and Dr. Remzi! Look them up! Houston has some great doctors but my GI told me I had to have my J pouch taken out. I went to 2 other GIs for second opinions. They really weren't of any help! I did a lot of research and took a trip to Ohio to meet with Dr. Shen and Dr. Remzi. Dr. Shen was able to cut 6 different areas around my J pouch where I had strictures. I will need to go back this October to see how things are going but no doubt they are great doctors!!!

I belive Mass General in Boston is tops in MA.

I go to Beth Israel in Boston. They are wonderful too.

I was hospitalized at Mayo(in MN) last year when I was traveling for work and had an obstruction. They do a team approach there. They were also very conservative about performing surgery and waited to see if the IV steroids would kick in and reduce the inflammation enough for the obstruction to pass my stricture(in descending colon). After 4 days in the hospital it did. I am headed to MN next week for work and will be going to Mayo for a second opinion. The colorectal surgeon at Washington University in St. Louis says I need to have a resection. I know I need the resection but want to see what the Docs at Mayo have to say and if they have any new techniques for surgery that would make it worth my while to have it performed there.
