Hi all. I'm new. Here's my story: It all started January 2010. I got an infected cyst on my back. I was sick for 2-weeks and had to have IV antibiotics. That caused severe diarhhea, nausea, etc.....My family doc tested me for CDiff and other things all of which were negative. I went from normal to lactose intolerant in no time flat. I've been to 3 different GIs. The first one did did the scope down my throat but wasn't interested in doing a colonoscopy. The second's final opinion was that I'm too young to take a bunch of pills (I'm 41). The third once isn't winning any races either, he said he doesn't want to "label" me with Chrons. Friday night I had some kind of attack (severe headache, vomiting, dizzy) and ended up in the Critical Care unit for observation because I had such low electrolytes because nothing will stay in me. I have several abdominal pain, nausea, diarhhea, gas, headaches, and joint pain. I'm lost and could use a little help!

HI Ceridwyn, Welcome to the forum, I know you been having trouble lately.Especially by you description. Your symptoms are very typical to Either IBS or Crohn's disease but, it's very hard to get a accurate diagnosis, unless you get blood work done and get some markers that indicate certain compounds that are familiar with crohn's. And you need to get a colonoscopy and get some biopsies done to get check also for markers for the disease.you should probably stick to liquids for the time being.Until things settle down and drink gatoraid for your electrolytes to be boosted and plenty of water to keep your self hydrated. Other than that you have to go back to see a GI specialist and get him to do a colonoscopy on you. Demand it if you too. Or go and see a your GP and get him to do a referral to get a colonoscopy done. That all i can tell you at this moment. I hope you get a diagnosis soon. We also have a undiagnosis club here at the forum you can drop in there and get some more answers if need be. I hope you feel better soon. best wishes.

:welcome:

Ditto to all that scott said!!! I'd also "request"(...demand...) and GI who is an IBD specialist to do a colonoscopy with biopsies.

As for blood work - things like white blood count (wbc), sed rate, c-reactive protein (crp) can all indicate inflammation.

Sorry those doctors have been wasting your time. This forum as a new "doctor directory"... you might check it and see if there are any reviews for GI's in your area.

Glad you found this site!

just checked the doctor directory and there aren't any listed in SC yet, but maybe someone else will have a suggestion for you.

Ok, I'm just getting madder and madder about the doc who told you you're too young to take a bunch of pills... so what, he thinks it's ok to be in constant pain and potentially have an uncontrolled disease???? :mad2:

I agree, get another opinion - colonoscopy, blood work. Too young to take a bunch of pills doesn't cut it. My doctor thought I needed a psychiatrist because I stayed sick when he thought I shouldn't be. Get mad, don't just lie there.

Hi and welcome! I agree with my friends above - further investigation is really needed. I think it is time for a colonoscopy. You are your #1 advocate, and you need to be proactive about your health. I know meeting with new doctors and getting lots of testing is stressful, time consuming, and inconvenient, but nothing is more important than your health.

I sure hope you find a new doctor who is aggressive in finding out what is going on with you. Good luck!
