I was put on 40mg prednisone 2 weeks ago and when I dropped down to 35 after
7 days I flared again and went back up to 40. I've been on 40 for3 days now and I'm feeling really scared about tapering off again in a few days. I was steroid dependent last year and had a hard time getting better. I had remission for 7months. I was thinking of staying on 40 for another week because I don't feel well enough. And maybe I could drop off by 2.5mg a week? It seems like the safest way right? I have a concert booked in October and I really don't wanna be sick for it. I have a hard time during the comedown by 5mg so maybe my body won't notice the drop by 2.5. Has anyone tried this before and did it work? I just can't wait to get better again but I'm just so scared

Imuran 100mg daily
Nexium 20mg daily (plus more if needed)
Humira 40mg weekly

Hi Apollo

Honestly, under the direction of you're doctor is the only way it should be done. Let your doctor know what's going on.

Sending you my support.

Slower is easier but obviously take longer. Assuming your docs just told you to taper I would say 2.5 at a time sounds good. You could even do 1mg at a time if you can find the 1mg ones and you are having trouble. Good luck!

Doctors thought I had ulcerative colitis and then when I tapered off prednisone, taking 800mg of asacol x 3 daily all the while, I had a flare in my esophagus. Turns out it's crohns, so back on prednisone while I wait to begin humira. I'm scared to taper off as well, I hate the side effects of the steroids. My doctor is having me do 30 for two weeks, then 20 for two weeks, then 10 for the next two. I wonder if my doctor would let me do it by 5mg like your doing. I imagine that helps?
