what to eat during a flare up?

hi guys,

any suggestions on what best to eat during a flare up? stuck in this for about 2 weeks and just cant shake it. started taking imodium today to try cut back on the bathroom visits but not working so far. lost about half a stone in the last week and really need to get back on track:voodoo:

Canned chicken and rice soup always makes me feel better. The rice thickens up my insides I think.
When I was REALLY sick and didn't have an appetite, the only thing that would give me energy was Wendy's jr. cheeseburgers. I know that won't work for everyone though.

I'd stay away from high fat, spicy, and dairy foods. See how that goes for a little bit maybe?

apple sauce, porridge, green shakes (juiced not containing the chunks), soups without bits, just keep it liquidy or mashed and easy for the stomach

cream of wheat, plain white rice, mashed potatoes, bananas...if really ripe, plain toast, plain crackers (saltines)

id use soy butter, which is delicious and healthy but i dunno things too toasted seem to be a little prickley on my insides.

Campbell's makes a product called Soup at Hand (just discovered it today) seems like a good thing to eat if you aren't on a totally liquid diet, the best way I can describe it is like a smoothie but with soup not fruit.

Anything really nutritious and low residue is what they are getting at. You want max nutritional result with minimum output. Personally I stay away from the canned soup, preferring those fresh ones you can get from a deli or whatever.

The more processed the food (think canned, boxed, ect..) the harder it is to digest. Steamed veggies so they are soft, chicken and rice are a favorite of most Crohnies, protein shakes. Think health food.

Some people are way more sensitive to milk or wheat products when flaring - you have to find what your own system will tolerate. Not tolerating is expressed by increased gas production, cramping, moving through your system like a bobsled at a water park, or just sheets of water come out, no solids. Your large intesting reforms all of your food into bolus' and is responsible for absorbing the water back out of your food so if your food is running right through you make sure to drink a lot more water, this is one way you end up getting dehydrated when flaring.

Sorry if this was tmi

The BRATT diet is pretty easy on the digestive system since there isn't a lot of fiber, but there's hardly any protein. I usually drink a lot of Ensure and mix protein powder with everything. Just throw it in your soups, rice, and applesauce. Anything nutritionally dense that will keep the calories up without being too hard to digest.
