Whats up with Mucus?

Stupid question. I started getting sick last December and by March I had to have another colonoscopy (I have Crohn's Colitis). My Crohn's was back. I ignored it (stupid I know) but then I really started getting worse in June. I'm seeing the typical symptoms again this time...severe abdominal pain, bloating, chronic diarrhea, fissure, hemorrhoid, severe bleeding, fatigue, headaches, body aches, etc. But now I'm experiencing some different symptoms with this. I have severe nausea and the other day I saw a lot of mucus...at least that's what I THINK it is. It was a white mass of jelly-like substance (sorry to be gross) and I'm not sure if that's what it is. I saw it first on Tuesday and again today. There was an alarming amount the other day. I've also been bleeding blood clots because of the fissure which can't heal because of the constant diarrhea. Would the white substance be mucus and what does that mean? I've never had this before. Also, is nausea another symptom of crohn's? And my ass hurts, it really really hurts.

ummm you need to go to the doctor, like now. You at the very least prob need IV antibiotics or at the worst possibly surgery. I'm no doc, but u need to go see one to get their opinion before things progress anymore. I hope things get better soon and yes it sounds like mucus to me.

Mucus is a sign of infection or inflammation and can be clear, white, or yellow. It's also possible that the blood may be from another location besides just the fissure. I agree that you do need to be seen as soon as possible. I was in remission for over 12 years and started seeing mucus in my stool about 3 weeks ago. I called my GI immediately but he was out of town. My inflammation markers in my blood also show that I have increased inflammation from my last blood work. I'm currently in a flare now and was given Entocort today (finally) and had my 6MP increased from 50mg to 75mg to see if we can get it under control. These symptoms cannot be ignored and will only get worse. Get it taken care of now. Since you have vomiting as well as mucus it could also be a sign or an obstruction (or partial). Vomiting can be a symptom of Crohn's but by no means are any of these symptoms "normal" making so they can be ignored.

"...significant amounts of mucus accompanied by diarrhea, pain or blood may signify an intestinal condition such as infection or inflammation. Increased amounts of mucus in the stool can also occur with cancers of the colon or rectum or with bowel obstruction."

Thank you for letting me know. I was at the doctors 10 days ago (no mucus back then) because I've been flaring badly since June, non stop. He told me I need to go on Remicade. I had my first TB test done and I'm going back on Wednesday for my 2nd TB test.

The blood is from the fissure, no doubt. The mucus has happened 2x so far that I've noticed but I had no idea what it was, I've never had this before. Tuesday was when I saw it first and I was really alarmed. It looked like a white long jelly fish (again, sorry to be graphic and gross) with smaller white pieces. My husband insisted it was digested salad but I knew it wasn't salad and didn't feel like arguing with someone who doesn't have this disease. I've had nausea for the last few weeks but NO vomiting. I've also been keeping an eye on my temp and it's been normal. My last colonoscopy in March showed ulceration, thickening, granularity and friability in the cecum, illocecal valve, distal transverse colon and splenic flexure.

CrabbyRelish I read your post that you thought you were flaring again, which is what sparked me to ask about the mucus. I'm so so sorry to hear that your flaring after such a long remission. I truly, truly hope you get better soon. This disease sucks!

Ah I see. Good to know there isn't any vomiting but nausea isn't good either. When will you be able to start Remicade? I hope soon and that it helps. I also hope the thickening is just inflammation that can be reduced rather than turning into scar tissue (which can be from repeated inflammation). Thank you for your well wishes. I preferred remission. :p
