Do they give them medication straight away. Do they put them on a liquid diet and does a liquid diet work for crohns?
If they have crohns and are going to be put on a liquid diet do they do it straight away or will you have to wait a few weeks?

Liquid diet ( exclusive enteral nutrition -EEN) can be used to reduce inflammation similar to steriods . Some kids use EEN at dx while starting maintenance meds ( immunosuppressants and/or biologics ) The EEN is used for 6-8 weeks while the immunosuppressants or biologics are building up in their systems .
Other kids use steriods and start maintence meds at the same time .
And still others use both EEN /steriods at once plus immunosuppressants and/or biologics
Most start at dx once approved by insurance .
Some have to wait a week or two for blood work to start 6-mp/Aza so they might start EEN /steriods while they wait .
Typically after the meds kick in 6/8 weeks the kids go back to a normal diet with partial en as a supplement to help with nutrition and growth

I think EEN is more better known here in the US than it was when my son was diagnosed. He was immediately put on steroids while we waited for blood work in order to start immunosuppressants. Fast forward a couple of years and we were given the option of steriods or EEN to try and knock out inflammation from a flare at which point we choose EEN my son hates prednisone but it does work quickly.
