GI put DD on 40 mg/day of Prednisone yesterday. When is the best time to give this. Doctor said we could give it all at once. However, I did that yesterday and DD seemed to have trouble staying asleep. Would it be better to break it up into 2 doses . . . . or maybe give it all in the morning?

We did 20mg in morning with breakfast and 20mg at bedtime. She did have mood swings (slightly manic one minute - crying the next). She also had trouble sleeping. We let her stay up a little later but made her stay in her bed, asleep or not. She could listen to her radio or read a book if she couldn't fall asleep.

We also split the dose but my daughter had trouble sleeping anyway. She would read if she couldn't fall asleep.

My daughter also had mood swings on Pred - there were lots of tears!

I should add that I did warn her teachers that she was on Prednisone and may behave a little differently. Her teachers gave her gentle reminders to be quiet and focus instead of punishing her for talking out and being disruptive.

We gave prednisone to my son in the morning. He also had trouble getting to sleep at night, a bit of moodiness, then the puffy face and acne, and some extra hair growth in his eyebrows. It worked quickly, but the side affects are a bummer.

We did one in the morning early and one after school
So split but not right before bed

Night sweats
Mood swings
Pred was hard
Each time a little different
Love hate relationship with it

We play with the dose each time she's on it. It's hard on the stomach for some,
if she complains they might put her on a PPI or over the counter acid reducer.
Grace gets really moody and we call it Princess Rages! Ya, you ain't lived until you've seen a 4 year old throw a chair because..... she could. Aww the good old days. Lol

We have always done pred with one dose first thing in the morning.

We had no major side effects on 30mg but heaps on the 50mg course.
