Hello all!
I am an old pro and the colonoscopies- whatever that means..I've had something like 13 scopes in the past 6 or 7 years.
I'm actually considering writing a book on my scope memories, it would be amusing.
Anyways going in for my next upper and lower scopes in 2 weeks. so mind you they are scheduled at 7:45 am, then I am scheduled for blood tests and 10 am....who said I was going to even be up and moving by then?! Then at noon I have an MRI with enterography, so basically after pooping my guts out, anthestia (I can't do the twilight sedation) I then need to get up - still not eat, drink about 1.5 liters of barium go into an MRI for 45 mins and then have glucagon pumped into my system, which history tells me will make me barf. Oh yea, it probably is only 2 in the afternoon when all this is done. Don't get me wrong this is somewhat entertaining, but I think it should also be illegal because I've done this line up in one day before and its evil.
Hence Dec 17, will in fact be the worst day of my life.

Anyone else ever done this? How did you get through it?

Hey Cosmojo,

Whoa, that is a punishing schedule!

My son had scopes scheduled at 8am. I think he was all finished and out of there by about 10:30am and having a raft of bloods at 11am. He did have a CTE BUT it wasn't scheduled until the next day.

Good luck!

Dusty. xxx

Yes. I was young and stuppid. And I had no choice. I didn't think that many procedures were allowed anymore, unless you were admitted in the hospital. You have a driver, right?

There was a time when you did not get sedation for the lower scopes. I have actually looked at my own colon before. It was at U of M veterans hospital, which is a teaching school, and they allowed me to look thru the scope, which had two viewers attached to it. Pretty cool. I have even had them try to keep me awake while doing the upper endoscope, but I just couldn't swallow the scope without gagging.

I will tell you this, we should all be thankful for the flexible scopes. My first scope was in 1982, and it was a ridged scope. That was one of the most uncomfortable procedures I have ever had done :frown:

My suggestion, make sure you have a driver and get some gatorade and easy digesting foods in you as soon as you are done with the procedures.

Good luck.

Later....

you are the patient and can always say no and request it spread over a few days. Keep control if you feel this jeopardizes your health. good luck

My son just went through that. Upper and lower scopes at 6am, labs at noon and straight to the MRI. He had just come off his NG tube during the scopes. By the time he started drinking the barium it had been 13 hrs since he'd had anything to drink. Very long day for him.

Hope it goes well for you!

That's a lot to do same day. It looks like you're doing these tests today. Sending positive thoughts your way! Let us know how it goes. Hang in there.
