Seems to me that there really isn't a whole lot that I CAN eat according to other peoples threads. :( NO fruit, veg....,meat........,dairy.............. what about bread lol thats all that is left. Anyways, I would mega appreciate any quick tips on things that are good to snack on during a flare-up because I need food. If I eat any less I might become a skeleton.

Also, what is all the fuss about gluten. What does it do to your system?

Take care, comments welcome

Don't get overly freaked out about what you can or can't eat because of other people. I almost did and found I actually can eat more that I thought as long as I am not flaring. You will need to test to see what bothers you and then avoid those foods at all costs! For example I use to LOVE coffee...not anymore because it DOES NOT love me.

I can't have milk, but have always been fine with cheese and yogurt. When I am flaring I really stick to white rice, plain bread or toast, chicken noodle or cream of mushroom soup, plain crackers like saltines or oyster crackers, plain cereal like rice chex or cheerios, and cream of wheat is super easy to digest for me.

Not sure about the specifics of gluten...something to do with irritation in the intestines I am sure.

MMMM... I love cream of mushroom soup, serious lol. I'll try some of those items and see if any of them go down well. And I just bought some Activia yogurt just to see if it helps. Just ate Wonton soup from the chinese place and had to watch my wife eat my old fav, General Tso's Chicken.. pure torture. Knowing my luck the wontons will devour my insides lol.

Thanks for the input every little bit helps :)

What I have read pretty much says the most irritating foods are those that are fatty, spicey, high in sugar and fried...oh and you should stay away from too much sodium because of dehydration and stuff. So pretty much this eliminated every single food I use to love to eat. French fries I could have eaten all day, every day...I don't dare eat a more than a few anymore.

Let me tell you I had 4...yep only 4 flammin' hot Cheetohs and within minutes they burned their way right through me! Seriously thought I felt them go all the way through...those were a favorite of mine too...:(

Well, I have stripped my diet down to water and now I'm kinda starting to add different things to it and see which ones tear me up, sounds like a good strategy to me :) And let me tell ya, I was the biggest pig of them all before my flare-up.

MMMM.... Cheetohs LOL your killing me ;) I'm sure things will work out plus I'm going to be on Remicade in the near future so hopefully that helps me to become semi-normal again.

What about chicken with limited spices (I use just salt, lemon and a bit of pepper)? It comes out really tasty and it hasn't ever affected me. Nice source of protein too. I personally don't have any trouble with meats, but everyone is different. You do have to experiment while not on a flare up. It's frustrating, I know, but it's kinda the only way to really find out what you can and can't tolerate. Good luck, I'm trying to put on some weight too! Lost too much during this flare.

there's nothing wrong with meat as far as I'm concerned, but if it's giving you problems and you've identified it as the problem, avoid it or try other meats...white meat chicken and fish are some of my and other Crohnies best foods.

Meats especilly white meat from chicken and fish are OK with me. Also boiled Omega 3 eggs. Rice, Boiled potatoes, yoghurt can be tried if you are having a flare... Also you can try a little honey for energy...

Everyone is different as to what they can and can't eat. I suggest starting with bland foods and working your way up from there.

On the other end of the spectrum you get folks like me, who just can't get it through their thick skull not to eat certain foods (like Taco Bell) no matter what. :)

I know I broke down the other day whilst at my sisters.... she had made corn on the cob!!!! I couldn't resist and I paid dearly for it.
