Xifaxan (rifaximin) and alcohol

Anyone know if it's safe to drink small amounts of alcohol on xifaxan (rifaimin)?

I'd assume it's a bad idea because it's an antibiotic, but I couldn't find any specific information.

Anyone with personal experience?

I've personally had no trouble combining alcohol with Xifaxan, and I don't think it's mentioned as a problem with this drug anywhere in the literature. Flagyl, an antibiotic commonly used by GI's, is said to cause a reaction to alcohol, but this is controversial. If someone is having a problem tolerating any drug though, it's probably a good idea to avoid alcohol, and follow the advice of their doctors/pharmacists.
