I was camping for the past week with friends and I got to thinking to myself that I must really be comfortable with my stoma...some of the comments I was making without even thinking about it were just funny as hell!!! All of my friends know about Oscar (and ask after his health, God love them!!) so I've kind of incorporated him into my little family...

Do you have any "you know you're comfortable with your stoma when" moments??

Mine came on Saturday night when one of my friends said that they had to go 'number 2' but didn't want to trek all the way to the bathroom, and I said 'I'm going right now...bet you're jealous'...lol That got a lot of groans and giggles....lol

Heehheeee!!!!! Good one!

I've been pretty comfortable with Stan from the get go. But I'm a pretty practical type person. Like when the old dears in the GI office did their shame on me stare when Stan sharted! I laughed. Dont give a FIG what they think!

Or when Stan lets a good stonking loud one off...and I say "Salute to the Queen!" And I'm getting to the point where I just dont care what people think. That could be menopause though, it does that to us!

It is what it is...no point being embarrassed or ashamed. Although I AM thinking of starting a thread for 'Stomas behaving badly'. Stan really has excellent timing!

Just before my trip to Detroit I was at a friend's place and the topic of me getting a specific smokeable medication across the border to the states came up.

I said "I'd try to take some to the UK, but never the states, I've even got a brand new orifice to hide it in. Do you want to touch it? you can feel it through my shirt." He declined.

Good one Jason!!

Cindy - I think the bag is probably the only reason I might actually go camping someday! Soooo much easier than trekking to the outhouse!!!

The nurse last night asked, "Well, can't they reverse it for you at some point?" And I said no, and he made a sad/sympathy/you poor thing face. I said, "Oh, no, please don't make that face. It;s a good thing. As a matter of fact, it's a great thing!!"

I've been really comfortable with it from day one. Sometimes more comfortable than people would like me to be, as I sometimes forget to give them a TMI warning! God love my husband, eating his dinner tonight while I described in detail the output after the obstruction blew!!

I don't have an illeostomy anymore, but I did have one for a few months. Me and some friends were sitting in a circle meditating (yeah, I'm a hippie.) and fart fart farrrttt goes my bag in the middle of meditation. Instead of being embarrassed I busted out giggling and all my friends joined! it was awesome!

does everybody's stoma get hard when air comes out of it?? i know the stoma isn't meant to have sensation but sometimes when stuff comes out of it, it feels like someones pulling it.....just wondering lol
