    Seton/suppositories??

Yeah, I hear you Shermel. My CR surgeon said in so many words that there's no fix for this particular fistula. Not many viable options at this time. Why oh why can they send a man to the moon, transplant hearts, transplant faces, but not find a way to close these tiny little tunnels?!?

    Seton/suppositories??

Hi Shermel2 thanks for your information. Good to know! I have a jpouch-vaginal fistula - the interior fistula holes starts around the dentate line in the rectal area goes to just outside the V opening. So the seton runs through this tunnel, and comes out the exterior opening that's just...

    Seton/suppositories??

So far, so good. I used them for a week, and am now off until I feel I need them again!

    Seton/suppositories??

Looks like nobody uses suppositories with their setons? Anyhoo: I gave them the old college try and didn't have any problems with inserting them. Very carefully. I figured if my CR dr. said I could have intercourse with a seton there, I can certainly insert a suppository with no problem. I...

Fistula Drainage w/seton vs. without seton

Thanks all for the explanations. I still can't help but picture the fistula being plugged up with the seton and as such can't get it through my thick skull how drainage can occur with it being plugged! Lizzy - I've heard of that bartholin cyst confusion happening more than once to other women...

Fistula Drainage w/seton vs. without seton

I had a draining seton placed in June (rectal-vaginal). Prior to the placement, my drainage was quite light, and I rarely had air coming through it. Have not had an abscess for over a year. However, since the seton, there's more drainage, and worse yet, lots more air coming through. I...

    Living with a Seton

I had a seton placed in early June (rectal-vaginal). The tail is short, about 1 inch, and looks like black thread with a couple knots in it. The seton itself looks like yellow electrical wire - my surgeon said these kind are more comfortable than the silk thread. She may have a point - I...

    Seton/suppositories??

I have a rectal-vaginal seton in, and am wondering if anybody out there uses canasa (or other) suppositories with a rectal seton - or if anybody knows whether using suppositories where there's a seton can do any kind of damage to the seton or fistula, or cause pain, or whatever? I was using...

Day 5 of Seton Placement for Fistula...Afraid Have Another

Danu - Sounds like you've got a decent plan of action going for you. I really hope the remicade works for you. Sounds like it was found early enough for meds to work - yay! And, so glad to hear you can avoid a seton. None of my doctors mentioned using remi for my fistula, but I know others...

    Yet more seton questions!

The increase in drainage/bleeding thing sounds normal, I guess. I can't help but feel that it's a set-back when it occurs, though. Makes me feel like giving up on my exercising/squatting/etc. Sailorluna, your experience is encouraging, thanks for sharing. Makes sense that the seton would...

    Yet more seton questions!

I've had a pouch-vaginal (actually, just south of the vaginal opening, near the perineum) for about 7-8 weeks now. Have had the fistula since Dec. 2010. Is it normal to have increased discharge and bleeding as well after activities such as gardening and fairly light exercises, including...

Questions for Users of Antibiotics w/ fistula

I've had a fistula since 12/10 and was on antibiotics since then - had a seton placed in July 2012, and went off antibiotics for about 3 weeks a couple months later. Unfortunately, the drainage kicked in after the 3 week "trial", along with bleeding, and I did not feel well, so am back on the...

Day 5 of Seton Placement for Fistula...Afraid Have Another

Hi Danu, I feel for you. I've had a pouch (let's just call it rectal) to "just outside the vagina" seton placed about 6 weeks ago. I agree with everything sailorluna said - from the incredibly upsetting part, to using cotton rounds and calmoseptine. Out of curiosity, though, sailorluna: why...
