    Advise for Anal Abscess Newbie

I've had 3 anal abscesses. The first two were lanced by my doctor and then all was fine. This last one drained on its own - I think it was a bit deeper, and has been continually draining pus or blood for a few weeks so I'm on cipro at the moment but my GI said I should see the surgeon as he...

    Blockage after op?

Ha! I never found that happen. I must investigate. (nothing to do with how yummy spring rolls are of course)

Ileostomy surgery tomorrow - relieved, excited and a little intrigued!!

Ouch indeed, but I'm glad its doing the trick. Whilst you are always a member of the stoma club it would have been truly awful if you had to get another so soon.

    For the ileostomates :)

2thy I never realised that secretions from the actual stoma may be eating the base plate (and paste) but that makes sense. I get a little ring around my stoma and thought it was output leaking onto it. Sometimes it is and I know cos its coloured, but other times the paste and bottom of the...

    Anyone with hypoglycemia problems?

Good girl. I'm glad everything was normal. Hopefully things will settle down as your stoma does.

Ileostomy surgery tomorrow - relieved, excited and a little intrigued!!

Oh yes rectogesic causes shocking headaches. Make sure you apply as little as possible and apply with a bit of glad wrap (sarin wrap in US I think?) over your finger so you don't absorb any more of the stuff through your fingers. (yes I know you wash your hands after :) but you still absorb it :) )

    Blockage after op?

Haha, and then there are times when you you think I didn't even eat that! or What IS that????

Need Advice, in pain - Perineal Wound Wont Heal After Colostomy

I recently had an anal abscess and did not have any fever with it. I also had cellulitis and an abscess in a wound in January and I didn't have high temps with that either - I did have some low grade temps but only knew cos I was taking my temperature. I don't think you are being a hypochondriac...

    Ileostomy bag choices

All ileostomy bags are drainable since you have to empty so much during the day depending on how much output you have but I would empty every couple of hours and in the beginning it was 15+ times a day. Dermacol seals are great if you have a regular shaped stoma. I used them with my last ileo...

Ileostomy reversal soon - what should I be expecting?

Good news Gracifer, though sorry you had a few rough days. I ate a hot dog with my stoma the other day with no problems. How did yours go down?

IIeostomy stoma bag keeps leaking :(

Ang see if they have or can get a different brand for you. Lots of people seem to have problems with Hollister bags sticking (though other people love theirs). Maybe it depends on skin type. I don't know. It will get better as the wound heals and you can use paste to fill in the crease from...

    Food & reversal after illeo

Strictly speaking you probably should avoid all those things that could have caused a blockage before BUT I never did after my last reversal. I think a hotdog would be fine if you chew it really well. So long as your bowels are working normally now I say risk it but if you are having any...

    Blockage after op?

Hi Marx, here is the list from the dietician at the hospital I was at. Popcorn. Tough meat, Bamboo shoots, Fruit and vegetable skins, celery, sausage skins, coconut, prawn shells (although why anyone would eat a prawn shell beats me!) raw or lightly cooked vegetables, nuts, corn, seeds, pips...

How is your sister going now? Been thinking about you both.

    1st post op cycle

Excellent news Hainman. And I think 3.5 km is pretty impressive to start off with.

Can you take prednisone if you have an abscess?

I've always been given really high doses of hydrocortisone IV along with antibiotics when I have abominable abscesses. Unless the crohn's inflammation is controlled the abscess will keep returning. I presume its the same for your situation. I'm hoping you are feeling better now K but just wanted...

Abdominal exercise after surgery - when?

My Gi said to google pregnancy exercise - although I think he meant post pregnancy. These tummy exercises will ease you into strengthening your abdominable core so you can resume normal exercise. Hmm abdominable - is that the correct word? sounds like abominable which my tummy certainly is!

    Blockage after op?

There is quite a few things you should avoid for a few months after stoma surgery. Anything particularly fibrous that can matt together and cause a blockage, popcorn, corn, citrus fruit, fruit skins, mushrooms, these are just a few. I can give you a better list if you need it. Haven't heard of...

    New Here - Upcoming surgery

Hi Jessy. Your story sounds very like mine. Ti disease and recurrent abdominal abscesses. My first resection gave me a couple of years of feeling 'relatively' better. Not perfect but not in agony either. Then I developed an abscess. When they went in to resect the area (after trying to drain the...

    Internal stitches

I'm not sure how long they take Hainman. My community nurse said they often slowly make their way to the surface where they will cause a lump and/or sore. It is possible they could cause an infection but only if there are bugs there to latch on to them. They should be sterile themselves. I know...
