    Stoma fistulas??

Slevan, could it be where your lower colon is connected? I have a very small opening (more like a slit) above my stoma but quite snug against it that is where my lower colon is attached. My stoma is an abcarian one where the intestine is severed but the lower colon is brought to the surface next...

    Peristalsis and cutting flange

I swear mine changes all the time. I cut leaving 1/4 inch around but i still find that when it swells up the flange rubs on it causing white patches and bleeding. If I cut larger I just get more irritation on the skin. I'm trying to get brave and retry the eakin seals (rings) but since at least...

To belt or not to belt?

i use the coloplast thin white belt that clips on to the sides of the bag. Since I started using it I haven't had nearly as many leaks - not sure whether its the belt or a few other things that changed at the same time but while its all working I'm not going to change it. Before that I used a...

Temp colostomy, how long it takes to heal?

I guess how long it takes depends on the individual whether they are able to take a medicine that works etc. I've developed perianal disease since having this ileostomy. Never had problems down there before, other than the occasional abscess. My GI says it would be worse if I didn't have the...

    Mucous discharge with ileostomy

I have regular farts occasionally. I think its when the bag has been overful at night and gas is pushed down into the lower colon. Its pretty rare though. I only have mucus poops very rarely too - can't remember when the last one was.

Testing foods with a new ileostomy

VO, I'm looking forward to your vent review. How do they work and do they work? UnXmas, you are right to be careful about what you eat in the beginning but you should find as time goes on that you can eat more and more variety. Even though the hole in the stoma looks small it does enlarge when...

    Trying to heal raw skin

Just a thought for when you want to air your stoma - you could tape a plastic bag beneath and put an old towel under that to catch anything that doesn't go in the bag....????

    Stoma Support Group

haha, I love this thread. I can identify just about everything I eat. Tuna! Chicken. Corn. Carrots, any green veggie. I really need to chew better. I'm still trying to work out how mushrooms and peas come out bigger than when they went in! Re leaks and changing bags. Touchwood, I havent had a...

    Trying to heal raw skin

The intestine is used to a warm moist environment but the surrounding skin isn't. the stoma won't be hurt by being in the air for awhile and it may help your skin. Try putting a bunch of toilet paper under your stoma to catch any dribbles. Keep some torn off pieces about 12 squares long next to...

Testing foods with a new ileostomy

i eat everything but like PJ in moderation. Citrus is the main problem for me as the stringy membrane is impossible to chew properly. Nothing has caused a blockage for me yet. I eat nuts, corn the occasional mushroom but again all in moderation and chewed well. It probably depends on whether you...

    Trying to heal raw skin

Mercurachrome is great for weepy skin. Really dries it out. Just use sparingly. the bathtub idea sounds like its worth trying - not a silly idea at all. Paste directly on the sore area really stings but only for a couple of minutes - the paste is meant to help healing as well as acting as a...

    Is your ileostomy output regular?

The stoma doesn't really become more visible when working. It does grow a little with peristalis but not by much and its hidden by the bag. I tend to wear looser clothing so the bag doesn't show but I think someone would have to be really looking to see it. My family assure me they can't see it...
