    MRI contrast with stoma?

I had to drink contrast for abdominal (as well as the iv contrast). I think I had to drink the same amount but I remember telling them they better hurry up and do it or it all would have drained out. Ended up having to drink a second lot because they took so long and then they inserted it via my...

Stoma enlarged and pain. Maybe flare?

Hi Emma, firstly good luck with your next IVF treatment. I have twins (now 22 years old) who were conceived via the G.I.F.T programme. Well worth the trouble of going through the whole experience. :) My stoma was prolapsing slightly and I just gently (very gently) pushed the bit telescoping out...

    Psoriasis

Nyx have you tried good old canestan for your "lady Parts" :). I know its an anti fungal an psoriasis isn't fungal but I use it for any itches and rashes in that area- if nothing else I think it must have something in it that is soothing cos it does help. Or maybe its the placebo effect...

Ileostomy surgery tomorrow - relieved, excited and a little intrigued!!

Sorry to hear about your flare up Samboi. I trialled 6mp recently but with no luck - made me too sick and was terrified it would trigger pancreatitis like Imuran did. Apparently 6mp metabolises into the same thing that Imuran does. Depending on whether the Imuran or its metabolite caused the...

    Nothing stops the massive diarrhea

Yes! I had forgotten about metamucil. That is supposed to thicken output and was recommended to me by my last surgeon. Anything that bulks up poop will help thicken so any soluble fibre helps.

    Any surgery good news stories?

Most ileostomys are temporary to allow the bowel to heal after surgery. Mine is permanent as no drug therapy has worked for me. I think it would be very difficult for you to have surgery at the same time as your wife. Even if you don't end up with a stoma it can take a while to recover from the...

Need Advice, in pain - Perineal Wound Wont Heal After Colostomy

Have you thought of getting a second opinion? I find nurses generally have better insight than doctors particularly when she is seeing you every day and can see how its all progressing.

    Nothing stops the massive diarrhea

Antid's did nothing for me, the only thing to slow my output a little was amitriptyline. And apples. also I was told to water down sports drinks 50/50. The best drink to be absorbed by the bowel is 1 litre water, 8 teaspoons sugar, 1 teaspoon salt and juice of a citrus fruit. Other than that i...

IIeostomy stoma bag keeps leaking :(

Hi Ang, firstly I'm glad you are home from hospital but so sorry you are still having problems. The pics you have posted are great and very helpful to be able to see what you are already doing. The only thing I can suggest is to maybe use a one piece convex. I found with the two piece that the...

Ileostomy reversal soon - what should I be expecting?

Wow I am amazed that Max also has IBD. Makes you wonder if there isn't an infectious side of it although none of our human friends catch it so probably not. Poor Max, I can totally understand how he feels. I often feel like clawing the couch when I'm on high doses of steroids. I'm amazed the...

What's the secret to healing perianal abscess?

Hi Lil Beak. I had a seton inserted 4 days ago because of anal fissure and abscess and fistula that had two tracks. One of the fistulas was laid open which I think is a fistulotomy and the other had the seton inserted. I had very little pain post op although I am on painkillers all the time so...

    Bad Pain after surgery

I think we all would be horrified to see what happens during abdominal surgery. No wonder we are sore from more than just the incision.

    Mucus discharge soiling underwear

I havent had mucus come out from the bottom end of the stoma into the stoma bag but I have had poop ooze out. It was a bloody nuisance as it just oozed under the baseplate as the colon opening is level with my skin. Hasn't happened often but when it did I had trouble changing the bag as I had...

    Advise for Anal Abscess Newbie

I dont think its unusual for the doctors to say everything is normal when you are feeling like , well awful. It will be interesting to see what the surgeon says. It sound like you are on the right medication already (humira) so maybe its just having the abscess that is causing everything else...

Need Advice, in pain - Perineal Wound Wont Heal After Colostomy

Hi San, I am so sorry that you are going thru all this. It truly is an annoying disease. Have you had wound cultures done so that the appropriate antibiotic is being used? are you GI and CRS aware that you are still struggling with these problems? I can understand your reluctance to have further...

    Terminal Ileal Crohns Disease

John I think it is one of the frustrating parts of crohn's disease. All the tests are normal but you still feel awful. In your case the scar tissue is probably the cause of the lower abdo pains and the way the disease is affecting the rest of your body is making your feel lousy. Unfortunately...
