    Ostomy Supply Review

I use welland flair convex with convatec paste, welland barrier wipes and stomahesive powder when my skin gets just toooooo sore. My stoma dips down on one side so I need a convex appliance and its oval shaped which is a nuisance. With my last stoma I used salts dermacol collars which I would...

    Ostomy Supply Review

I came across this thread and thought I'd resurrect it in the hop eof helping some of the stoma newbies. Feel free to add your own experiences of flanges/bags/wipespastes and rings - and anything else you do that may be helpful to someone. anna

    Ill fitting flange

Yippee on getting rid of the bridge! To the best of my knowledge the clear fluid draining would be serrous fluid which is a normal part of the healing process. My last op I had a wound vacuum attached to the wound and it used to suck out an amazing amount of fluid. The community nurses assured...

    Problem after rectum removal

San I'm so sorry you are having these problems and can completely understand how fed up with it all you are. As Afidz says it will be better in the longterm if you get something done even though that is the last thing you want. Also I was just reading on another thread about a non healing anal...

Need Advice, in pain - Perineal Wound Wont Heal After Colostomy

Yes a wound culture is essential, I had the same problems as PJ and Gutless wonder with a wound taking ages to heal. It was only when I developed cellulitis and got put on keflex that the healing took off. I'd forgotten about that until PJ and Gutless wonder mentioned it so sorry for not...

    Surgery Friday Questions

Hi mimzim, being anxious about surgery is completely normal. I think it would be abnormal not to worry about it! :) I didn't have bowel prep for any of my resections/ilestomys and whilst I did get a wound infection with my last one it developed quite a while after surgery so was probably not...

    Any surgery good news stories?

Hi David R, I've mainly only had small bowel involvement which has resulted in an ileostomy so I can't comment on your op but I did want to say that people who have had success are less likely to post on a forum. i.e., we tend to get those with problems so don't be alarmed by all the failures...

    Old Fistula Bleeding

Hi DJW, Glad to hear that the abscess under your wafer and the old fistula have been attended to and that there are no new fistulas. Truly this disease is one thing or another! You probably won't need this now but Menstrual pads could be helpful for soaking up excess blood from a...

    Anal fissures developing with ileostomy

well I saw the surgeon today and I have a fissure and abscess and possible fistula so he is going to insert a seton on Monday and have a better look around. So no magic cure Samboi. :). Didn't even clear the abscess just closed it up! Do setons hurt? Or the procedure?

    Stoma Support Group

Yes I've been assessed for one but due to the amount of surgeries i've had and the complications they don't think I would be suitable. Plus the trials are all for more biologics which my specialist doesn't think will be any good for me. Thats why this stoma is now permanent, at least until...

    Ill fitting flange

Haha, I remember reading that bit about sex and a stoma. I was like Really? REALLY? It is not advised to put anything in to your stoma. That said, I did consider using a tampon in desperation the other day. I'll let you all know if I'm ever brave enough to do it. And back to the original...

    Colonoscopy/ileoscopy trough stoma

Haven't had it done yet but my IBD specialist wants to do one soon. I'll be interested in hearing how yours goes.

Stoma is painful and sore when touched

The stoma has no nerve endings so shouldn't feel anything but I swear when I can feel stuff come out of it if its under any sort of pressure or anything large. Must be the skin around it I guess. I was jsut thinking too about the leaks you've been having. Is the skin under your wafer very sore...

Ileostomy reversal soon - what should I be expecting?

When I had my first stoma reversed it was stitched up in a straight line too but then the wound opened up so it needed packing for weeks. I was opened up down the middle for the op so I had that wound too but it didn't need packing. samboi, theres always a silver lining isn't there. Extra...

I can't deal with this crap (literally)

I found a belt was one of the things that helped me stop night leaks. Also does your stoma protrude a bit? You may find a convex appliance helps even if you don't think you need one. Other things to think of - is the skin totally dry before you put your wafer on? Are you using any lotions that...

    Showering with a Ostomy

I know it wouldn't work for me but for those who only have a small or fairly solid output it could work. Also if you know your stoma is quiet at a particular time and are able to shower at the time. I think its easier to just shower with the bag on and tape the sides for me.

    Anal fissures developing with ileostomy

Oh I don't think its cleared up the fissure, just the infection. I think the underlying problems are still there as I still get occasional pus and lots of blood about once a week. No idea where thats coming from.
