    Working with a stoma?

Gra I just get them from my ostomy association when I do my normal order. Theyre called Coloplast 12070 Elastic Tape and work just like the hydroframes Samboi mentioned. I prefer them to the hydroframes as they don't get all sticky in the shower like the flange (sticky part haha) and hydroframes...

    Stoma Support Group

I think sitting up would be best as the is the way you stomach will be most of the time. I change mine sitting on the toilet so I can drop the copious amounts of toilet paper I use to catch drips right in to it. You mentioned in another post that the bottom of the flange sits on your pubic hair...

    Staying Positive

Yes mine is oval. Well sort of - one side is smaller than the other so yes it is awkward trying to get a good fit. I eventually got there but it would have been a lot easier if someone had helped! Your husband is very lucky. Its great you have such a positive outlook. Just about all stoma...

    Problems with leaking bag....

Hi Colin, it may well be worth seeing another doctor. Perhaps your stoma can be reversed now. Are you on any meds for crohn's? Have you had any trouble since you had your stoma? As 2th fairy said it may help to try different appliances to find one that works better. All the companies will send...

    Shave hair around stoma?

Don't have any experience in this myself but just wanted to warn not to use any oils or moisturisers around your stoma as they will affect the adhesion of the wafer. Warm water only plus a barrier wipe. Jennifers suggestion to shave with the grain makes sense too. Less likely to cause irritation.

Hmm. I dont find my wafer uncomfortable at all. What position are you in when you change? Do you need to lift your tummy up to apply your wafer? Maybe I've just forgotten what it feels like in the beginning. anna

How to cope with ostomy anxiety?

With time you do get in tune with your stoma. Always carry a spare kit and spare clothes. make sure your kit has everything you need including wet wipes. I even carry some toilet paper as I find the stuff in public toilets usually disintegrates as soon as you try to wipe any mess up. I also...

Bag keeps leaking & the output is so high

I think you can eat as many (marshmallows) as you like if your output is watery. Slow down as it thickens. I found with my first stoma they did thicken my output, but they also thickened my waist so this time I avoided them!

Safe candies / snacks with ostomy?

I think all should be fine. I think the main thing is to start by eating just one or two and see what happens. If they come out whole in the bag then avoid them just in case but I think as most sweets are mainly sugar they will probably dissolve before then or would before they caused a problem...

Bag keeps leaking & the output is so high

I htink everyone has covered the basics for now but if it continues give me a shout as I've always had a huge output and its only recently with medicines that I've got it to slow down. Apples are the best for thickening my output, but make sure you peel them in the beginning until your gut heals...

    Barrier wipe question

I'm glad you two agree with me. After reading the link in Dukeis's post I thought maybe I was wrong recommending them but I think it does just depend on your skin. Interestingly it was a man who wrote it and Dukeis also finds them unnecessary so maybe its cos mens skin is tougher?

    Loop versus end ileostomy?

haha, not a dork, an ostomate (or ileosta/colosta if you really want to join the club)

    Sleeping with a bag

Yikes! I couldn't imagine having to run downstairs to the loo. The way my bag fills up at night i wonder how it doesn't just explode sometimes.

    Barrier wipe question

Gra here is an interesting link that Dukeis posted in your post about sticking your bag on twice. Well worth a read. It advises not using wipes at all. Personally I find my skin gets stripped if I don't use them but others don't. Perhaps it depends on your skin type and toughness. It also...

    Loop versus end ileostomy?

Yippee, presents! Its also fun when you get all the samples from the companies. :) The things that make us happy now!!!!!. You'll soon get used to all the intricacies and be an old hand like all of us. It gets so much easier as time goes on, at times you think the problems will never be overcome...

IIeostomy stoma bag keeps leaking :(

Getting the skin healed will help with everything. Creams are no good as the oils in them prevent the flange from sticking down. The flange themselves are actually good for the skin - they are the same product as used in wound care. I hope it all settles down for you and I am very glad they...

    Stomach bug & stoma

Poor you, not a fun thing to have. The main thing is to make sure you do not become dehydrated so sip (not gulp) an isotonic drink often to maintain your fluids and electrolytes. If you dont have an isotonic drink on hand you can make one with : 1 litre water 8 teaspoons sugar 1 teaspoon salt...

    Sleeping with a bag

I sleep on my right side mainly but usually wake up on my back, I think I subconsciously move position as the bag fills. The bags are pretty secure particularly if you wear a belt so I think sleep anyway that is of comfort to you other than on your stomach. Which is unlikely to be comfortable...

    Barrier wipe question

You should be fine. Lots of people don't use them at all though I do. Barrier wipes mainly protect the skin from being stripped when something sticky is removed - nurses use them under anything that will have something sticky removed often such as wound dressings. Barrier wipes are also supposed...
