    Muscle relaxant/NSAID alternatives?

I actually took the opportunity over Christmas to get off meds altogether. So far it's going ok - certainly no worse, so I suppose that is a sign that the meds at best were doing very little for me any more. Symptoms still come and go but they're a lot more stable than they were a couple of...

    Muscle relaxant/NSAID alternatives?

How did you go coming off 25mg? Unfortunately I find paracetamol fairly ineffective... god I miss asprin! Only non-opiate painkiller that ever really worked for me.

    Muscle relaxant/NSAID alternatives?

Sleep's always been an issue for me - mostly the "can't switch brain off" type of sleeplessness. Before I got sick I really only needed 6-7 hours to be fine, nowadays no matter what I do I can't get good sleep and even when I do sleep I feel no different on 7 hours or 12 hours(!). I probably...

    Muscle relaxant/NSAID alternatives?

Interesting - I wonder if that stuff is available here (Australia). I will have to investigate.

    Muscle relaxant/NSAID alternatives?

Thanks all for your thoughts. I don't know much about how topical NSAIDs - does the stuff get into the bloodstream if it's applied topically? Astra, do you find the amitryptiline knocks you around? I take a nightly 10mg dose to control my CD symptoms (which interestingly it does quite well in...

    Muscle relaxant/NSAID alternatives?

That's the one I was put on initially - couldn't remember the name. Made me sick as a dog! But, frustratingly, helped my shoulder like magic.

    Muscle relaxant/NSAID alternatives?

Hi all As we all know, NSAIDs are generally considered a bad choice for people with IBDs/Crohns Disease. I have a shoulder/neck injury which is giving me hell. I think it's probably posture/repetitive use related due to my job. Before I was diagnosed (a couple of years ago now) I was put...

    Anyone on or tried amitriptyline/endep?

Hi all - I hope you are all surviving. I thought I would share something recent in my treatment. My diagnosis has always been symptoms (including biopsies, bloods and scoping) "consistent" with Crohn's, although never definitive. Following some reading and suggestions from various sources, I...

    Imodium/loperamide question

Hi - thanks for the reply. I don't have any narrowing so I don't think that's a concern. I wonder if your fainting experience is to do with water levels, I gather taking 'stoppers' helps your body reabsorb water but maybe its not used to that any more. I suppose it is my GE's comment that...

    Imodium/loperamide question

I should add - my diagnosis is based on endoscopy/colonoscopy observations and biopsy results, so there is definitely something going on in the walls of my terminal ileum.

    Imodium/loperamide question

Hi all, hope you're doing ok so far in 2010. I am wondering whether anyone has had a similar reaction to imodium/loperamide to me and can shed some light on what it means. I have been diagnosed with Crohn's in the terminal ileum as of about 10 months ago. My symptoms are basically limited to...

ANOTHER question about coming off Prednisone

I definitely get some weird leg/joint pain when I get to low/zero doses. For me they go away after a week or two, I just endure the pain or take paracetamol. My skin gets better on steroids so in that sense I guess it gets a bit worse when I come off - I wonder if for some people this effect...

    Are nurofen or panadol safe?

Likewise, I've been told to strictly take paracetemol and stay the hell away from nurofen, aspirin or anything else. Which is a shame, because aspirin works a lot better than anything else for me.

    Cipro/Flagyl - is your D worse?

I had a course of tinidazole, which is not identical but similar, and it made me MUCH worse for a couple of days.

    Alcohol with medications

Trust your bloodwork IMHO. If you convince yourself that alcohol is "bad" then the stress will probably do you more harm than the actual booze! The liver is a pretty amazing organ, and I'm sure a couple of drinks here and there won't do it any harm. Everything in moderation is probably the...

    Asacol+Prednisone...How Long Until Relief?

In my experience if steroids are working, you will know within a few days. A couple of times I have started on high doses and they have worked amazingly well within 48-72 hours (as well as the side effects kicking in in the same timeframe, unfortunately). Be wary of people telling you what to...

    Salofalk

Oh, and I should add, I have Crohn's in the terminal ileum. Apparently Salofalk in an appropriate form will target that part of your system as well as the large intestine.

    Salofalk

Contrary to the above, Salofalk is a recognised treatment of Crohn's (maybe not in the USA though?). According to two specialist doctors I have seen it is typically regarded as a preventative drug, i.e. more effective at preventing relapses than actually clearing them up. My current doctor...

Taking a poll - Travel prior to Crohn's

My symptoms first became apparent during a trip to Africa (I live in Australia, though). Before that I had never been sick at all.

    Experiences with Pentasa

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone else has had the side effect of severe D from using Pentasa? I seem to get a sudden, bad dose of D about 8 hours after taking Pentasa granules. I have Crohn's in the terminal ileum, these granules are supposed to work their way round to there before they release...
