    I get really painful spasms at night in my lower legs, not sure if its connected to IBD but its horrible. Because the Asacol does cause joint pain I was also wondering if this was the cause.

    I have never found that rice causes D, strange but its one of the safe foods in moderation I find. Maybe it depends on the type of rice and the way its cooked. Well at the moment I would matter if I ate air as it all hurts, but thats the nature of the beast .

    Hi Nicole The advice from Astra is exactly what you need to do first . This has helped me a lot. Regarding the diet , start keeping a food diary to help eliminate the foods that cause discomfort and also use the forum to find food you can substitute when times are bad . Peter

    Antidepressants calm your gut?

    Hi Dr Who I have been using Amitriptyline for a bout 2 months now and it is usefull especially if you need a night sleep . It works for me where alot of painkillers just made things worse . Its worth a go .
