    Heard from Doc today

I’m wondering why the biopsy report is so different from the verbal report from the fellow (“There were areas of inflammation and oozing through the sigmoid colon.”) Did they not biopsy the angry looking parts? Or can things look bad grossly but be ok under the microscope?

    Remicade trough level

I believe his CRP was normal/ low so we’re not sure it’s crohns( just seemed to have the GI issues in last 2 weeks of inflectra cycle. He has another more serious illness that may be affected by GI inflammation so I guess that’s why the doctor is being aggressive.

    Remicade trough level

8 week. Mayo checks antibodies if trough less than 5, so they didn’t check. He’s been on Remicade or Inflectra for 8 years or so. He was hospitalized with a bad cellulitis twice 2 summers ago so that’s why I’m worried.

    Remicade trough level

My adult son w crohns complained of diarrhea and loose stools towards the end of the 8 week inflectra cycle. His Dr. checked a trough level and switched him to every 6 weeks. Today I asked my son to look up the trough and it was 17 ( normal 5 or greater) Does the changing of inflectra to q 6...

Switching to an out-of-town doctor, how do you arrange infusion options?

The insurance company required my son to switch to home infusions (Remicade) a few years ago. If you go to a doctor an hour away, s/he should be able to arrange infusions at your home or at a location reasonably close to you, unless you are in a very rural area. For home infusions, your doctor...

Bowel inflammation when I take steroids, is it Crohn?

The labs you posted show your doctors did some tests for bacteria and parasites and these were negative but I don't see any test for Strongyloides. It's probably very unlikely but it might be worthwhile asking about. It is a very common infection that is often asymptomatic but flares with...

Bowel inflammation when I take steroids, is it Crohn?

When I read that steroids make you worse, I wonder if you could have a chronic infection. Steroids can make infections worsen and there are chronic infections that cause pancolitis, lymph node enlargement and liver and spleen enlargement. For example, Strongyloides is a parasite that can cause...

    Fever/Remicade

My son’s GI and primary MD knew he had 101.3 and didn’t direct him to be seen. I made him go to walk-in care the next day when the fever continued. Luckily he is already feeling better.

    Fever/Remicade

He went to the walk-in and tested positive for the flu. He's feeling better today but very tired and now has a sore throat. They prescribed the antiviral Tamiflu. Of note, he did have a flu shot a month or two ago.

    Fever/Remicade

My adult son, who has Crohn's on Inflectra (remicade biosimilar), developed a fever 101.3 today. He has no other symptoms except some aches. It's been a while since he has had a fever and we're not sure of when he needs to be seen or have tests. We did a home rapid Covid test which was...

    SIBO

Sorry that she is dealing with this but it's good that she finally has the SIBO diagnosis and that her GP seems to be knowledgeable. Was she able to gain weight with the antibiotics? And if so, has she lost it again? I sincerely hope she gets some help from her GI soon. The GI could...

Ulcers and erosions in small intestine

My son was treated with prednisone for 6 weeks at Crohn's diagnosis (ileitis age 19) and then switched to budesonide= entocort 9 mg a day. He was on it (6 mg or 9 mg) for a a year or slightly more which was longer than they use it for and retrospectively too long. (The other choice they gave...

    5yo Son Diagnosed 1/20/21

Apologies for not reading the entire thread. The normal range for lymphocytes varies with age. 4880 seems completely normal. The upper limit of normal is higher in children, especially younger children. I wonder where the labs reference range is from snd if it’s age Med News Today says “The...

Newly “diagnosed” 7-year old - confused mom

I read that “About 12 percent of people with Crohn’s disease and about 9 percent of people with ulcerative colitis have a confirmed family history.” That leaves 88% who do not.

Newly “diagnosed” 7-year old - confused mom

I’m very sorry that you snd your son have been dealing with this. You wrote “Biopsy comes back as not suggestive of IBD or celiac” I’m wondering what the intestinal biopsy showed? Can you share the exact words re: the microscopic part? Did they biopsy the ileum? Also wondering how long your son...

    Heard from Doc today

We had the same experience with the phone alarm being ignored. The notifications idea is a really good one I’m going to suggest to my son. Thanks!

    Heard from Doc today

Glad she was able to see an ostomy nurse who could see what the problem was and knew what to do. Is there any way she could exchange her recent shipment of old flanges for the correct ones?

    Heard from Doc today

Thanks for the update. The weight gain, 4 mile walk, “feeling great”,normal CRP, no more bleeding all sound really good. Sorry she is dealing with leaks. That can’t be any fun. Could a video visit w an ostomy nurse be arranged? Would it be helpful? Obviously not optimal. Are there visiting...
