What a hard situation! When we see someone choosing a path that we think is wrong or dangerous, we usually try to convince the person to change. However, the more we work to convince them, the more they may give reasons to support their position. I am guessing that she has some concerns about...

    Biopsies for colonoscopy?

His Crohn's has been in terminal ileum and probably jejunum by MRE. The doctor said his intestine looked great and he biopsied the colon as a screen for dysplasia. He didn't biopsy the terminal ileum.

    Biopsies for colonoscopy?

My son has his colonoscopy scheduled for this morning. Should the doctor do biopsies even if his intestine "looks good?" He has Crohn's and is on Remicade. Thank you!

What exactly is she getting in the PICC line? I recall: fluids and lipids. Can you share what/how much? I'm still unclear on how beneficial the PICC line fluids and lipids are for her. Does the GI cite any studies or personal experience with IV lipids and fluids in individuals like her...

    Sex related question

I think GI doctors and GI surgeons are the ones who know what the risks would be for you, and they should be comfortable talking with their patients about this. If you feel you can't ask your doctor, there are reputable websites on line where you can can pay something (not a lot) and...

    Heard from Doc today

For some reason, this post didn't post. So this is in response to a question last eve. They are saying that they didn't find an association between trough levels and remission in their cohort of people with Crohn's and U.C, on maintenance V for between .8 to 2.2 years. Their trough range was...

That article says used faecal calprotectin <250 ug/g and CRP<5 mg/L as evidence of biologic remission and appearance of gut (no inflammation and ulceration) on colonoscopy as evidence of endoscopic remission. This is Mayo scores for UC; there appear to be two parts, symptoms and endoscopy...

I'm wondering how much weight she has gained over what period of time with what nutritional intake? If she's been gaining fast with not a large number of calories going in, some of this weight gain could be fluid weight, especially if her albumin/total protein are low. Do you happen to know...

I have been away from the forum and am just catching up. I am so sorry that she's been so sick and had so much pain. I just want to send a lot of hugs and my hope that the doctors can get her illness and symptoms under control really soon.

    Breastfeeding and Medications

I'm not currently a breastfeeding mom (though I was one) nor a person with Crohn's (my son is). I hope it's ok to post this here. If not, forgive me. I feel for you and understand your concern about exposing your baby to any medicine. If you are needing high dose corticosteroids, you might...

Timing of colonoscopy while on Remicade

Does it matter when one has a colonoscopy while on Remicade? If you have had a colonoscopy on Remicade, do you recall when you had it (soon after remicade infusion, at the half way mark or right before the next infusion? I would think the best time would be 1 or 2 weeks prior to an infusion.

The beginning of a scary journey

Hello. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. If you have current anemia and weight loss, it would seem to indication that your current medication isn't working well or well enough. Perhaps another medication could help you more. My son was in college when he got Crohn's. He was on budesonide...

Insurance in U.S. for non U.S. citizens

The U.S. gov websites says (see below) but it could change again due to politics. Pre-Existing Conditions Under current law, health insurance companies can’t refuse to cover you or charge you more just because you have a “pre-existing condition” — that is, a health problem you had before the...

    False Crohn's diagnosis?

The reasoning of the second gastroenterologist seems strange. You can have active inflammation in the small intestine with a normal colonoscopy. Did you point blank ask the second gastroenterologist "If I don't have Crohn's, what gave me the ulcers seen on endoscopy before?" Did you have any...

Remicade - lab test frequency? (adults)

I am wondering how often you get blood work while on maintenance Remicade and in remission. If you know what your doctor checks, I'd be interested to know that too! - mom of an adult with Crohn's

Do I have to be weighed at my gastroenterology appointment? (UK)

I don't know but perhaps you could not look and ask them not to tell you your weight.

Everytime I eat I have to use the bathroom so I dont eat anymore

Have you had blood work or endoscopy recently? What were the results? What does your doctor say? I'm very sorry you are dealing with this and hope that you and your doctor can figure this out and improve your situation.

    Neutropenia

I have no personal experience with this but was curious since my son is on Remicade and .4 is quite low. This is what I found: This report found neutropenia (<2000 neutrophils or 2.0 [compared to your .4]) in 18% of rheumatologic patients receiving anti-tumor necrosis factor. This says up to...
