    Joints and stiffness

DS has never had any swelling or redness, just PAIN. He has had enthesitis once in his hip and once in is heal, both times required a course of pred. He takes sulfasalazine to maintain remission and I once thought it wasn't doing anything and we tried (with the doc's ok) to wean him off of it...

    Update on Violet: RELAPSE

I just came across this article and it made me cry but it also made me hopeful. Sometimes it is so hard to have hope when everything seems to be so dark. Thinking of you and V. http://www.ufvcascades.ca/2014/04/are-you-gutsy-enough-ufvs-james-najman-is-making-a-stand-against-crohns-disea

    Enteral Nutrition

FWIW my son also had Crohn's in his esophagus at the time of doing EEN.

    Enteral Nutrition

That is really weird. My son literally learned all he needed to do in 1 hour and he was 10 years old at the time. No hospital stay needed.

    Enteral Nutrition

My son also used a NG tube that he inserted every evening and removed every morning. He was 10 years old when he did it. I too was very anxious about the inserting of the NG tube but somehow my son wasn't and approached the whole thing as if he was learning a fun (think 10 year old boy humor)...

    FODMAP Diet

My son has also had great results with the FODMAP diet. He has been following it since mid November. He used to have daily abdominal pain and that has disappeared. He too had been a heavy milk drinker and bread eater.

It's been a while.. update on Devynn

Both my kids have learning disabilities, dyslexia to be exact. Although dyslexia is a broad term in itself. It is sooooooo important to find a way to show Devynn that a you can be smart AND have a learning disability. In fact if she has slipped under the radar at school for this long with a...

Having a hard time getting son's school to support him when absent in Canada - any tips?

I must try this! I also love the suggestions on how to get my son to school more regularly, ours usually come during the parent teacher interview. I think the suggestions must come from good intentions but it really spells out the lack of true understanding for the situation. :wine:

Having a hard time getting son's school to support him when absent in Canada - any tips?

We have troubles with this as well. My son is in grade 7 so he doesn't start high school until September. He has missed large portions of the last 3 school years. In grade 5 and 6 he was in a private school and it was easier to get the school work sent home from there. This year he is back...

    Does altering diet actually help?

My son has had great results following the FODMAP diet. He struggled for a long time with chronic abdominal pain, even while all his inflammatory markers were normal. About 6 weeks after putting him on the diet he was pain free.

7 yr old newly diagnosed Imuran or Remicade

Hi Emily's Mom So sorry to hear of your daughter's diagnosis. It is a heartbreaking thing to have to go through. My son was diagnosed at the age of 10. He was started on prednisone and azathioprine immediately. We switched to EEN when it became apparent that prednisone wasn't doing the...

    Child refuses to swallow pills

:hang: we had a few nights like this in the beginning and now my son can take a handful of pills all at the same time! The biggest thing that helped my son was to calm him down before he tried to do it. We calmly and rationally explained that he could do it and that the pills were smaller...

    Bananas for Bananas

Interesting, this seems to be the exact opposite of the FODMAP diet. These are all the foods that you are supposed to avoid according to the FODMAP diet (except for the bananas). The whole idea of the FODMAP diet is to reduce the indigestible sugars that feed the bacteria and produce gas.

New Here - not sure what to do

:welcome: Mamahenn Sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis but glad you have found us. My son was also diagnosed at the age of 10. I would definitely look into exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) as an alternative to steroids. My son has tried both treatments and definitely prefers EEN to...

    Much Ado About Nothing! eh!

He does have an IEP but his issue is with written output not reading, my daughter's issue is with reading but not written output just to keep things interesting!!! :ybatty::ybatty::ybatty: I think they will likely allow him more time to write the test. I just get frustrated with people that...
