How to get longer wear from bag

I'd agree with 2 2 piece being better for a longer wear time. I use coloplast sensura 2 piece and they can take a lot more "abuse" than the one piece I used to wear can. I was lucky to get 2 days out of a one piece and they leaked all the time but now providing my output doesn't get watery...

Thoughts on severity and when you were diagnosed?

I'm not sure to be honest. I don't spend as much time on here as I used to though so maybe it's hard to tell. Mine was moderate when diagnosed and then went towards the severe end of the scale before a perforation. where as a friend who I know is now at a point where he is coping without meds...

Will I ever be able to eat normally again?

Some people can have a very varied diets. Other people have trigger foods that they know will set them off. My advice would be to try whatever you want, but in small amounts and introduce it slowly into your diet. maybe keep some sort of food diary, so you can work out what does and doesn't...

The downsides of having a stoma

Haha yeh! although I pass the odd bit of mucous so I get a bit of a go at remembering what it used to be like in the good old days! wow, this is the sort of conversation you could only get away with on this forum lol

    To disclose or not disclose.

I'd always go with the policy of honesty being the best policy really. In my last interview I didn't get as far as telling them I had a stoma but they certainly got told that I'd recently had health problems and stuff. I didn't get the job. Most probably because I'd worried myself about what...

    Ileostomy question

I pretty much stopped drinking for a few reasons, but on the odd occasion I have drank it doesn't seem to have caused any problems, although it has only been small amounts in comparison to what I used to drink. You might find thing's might fill up quicker but that would be about it, I'm with...

What are the risks of reversal in this case?

I'm waiting for a reversal too and they won't do it because of risks because of other complications I have on going. If they thought there was a risk or that he wasn't ready for the reversal I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be doing it. Hope everything goes ok.

    One piece or two?

I moved over to a 2 piece and things have been so much better. I find the 2 piece can take a lot more abuse than a one piece can, I can bath, shower play sports and it will still be fine for a few days where as with a one piece it would need to be changed straight after a bath for instance. the...

My story! I'm new to the forum.

Hi nellie, welcome to the forum :), i was a bit older when I first got diagnosed,(21ish) but I can imagine that going through that at the age of 16 must be a lot to take in. It was weird for me, you feel happy that you have been diagnosed and can look at getting it sorted. but then it sinks in...

    Pop vs Water

I remember when I was given a fact sheet when coming out of hospital about ways of helping dehydration, and a flat can of coke was one of the remedy's. I love fizzy pop and used to drink a lot of IRN BRU but now find myself just drinking tea during the day, I don't know why but I just can't find...

    Sex issues

I'm glad this thread has turned up, Just had a good read through my long rant! kinda mad looking back at this when I realise that I've now been with my current girlfriend for 9 months and things have been great! (I realised after a bit that the girl I was talking about in my earlier post was...

    Is Crohn's seasonal?

It's been discussed on here a few times and I'd be inclined to agree with you Jennifer. In my case whenever I've had bad flare up's they have always been around this time of year. I think it has something more to do with stress/depression being a trigger in some people. I don't think it''s a...

    Anxious abou Reversal

Kela i'm in a similar situation and as thing's stand because of some other problems and the risks of having a reversal, it seems to me anyway, that it isn't worth it when I feel relatively fine and am starting to get back on my feet. Speaking to my gastro last week he was saying that a lot of...

V high output - soooooo thirsty

Like others have said, maybe best to try and get rehydrated at hospital before things get worse. I've found with my ileo that drinking when I haven't eaten anything means it always goes straight through me. so I always have something to eat along side a drink. even if it's just a snack to sort...
