    How dangerous is alcohol, really?

I used to drink pretty heavily myself, and for the first 2 years after being diagnosed I drank more if anything, even when on predisolone. nearly every weekend, not forgetting the holidays in ibiza and various other trips to europe where I would get wasted. At the time I didn't think I was doing...

Do you pay for your supplies?

At the moment I don't pay for supplies or prescriptions, and if anything is changing I am yet to be informed. My stoma isn't "permanent" as such, but I do have a medical exemption certificate, I was advised by my nurse that any stoma is permanent until the surgeon says otherwise... and either...

For the Males on the Forum

As far as GI's go I've never dealt with females but I have had a lot of female doctors and nurses looking after me and never really had issue's, I know it is uncomfortable having someone else present when having a rectal examination but in my experience this is common practice, i think mainly to...

Disability Living Allowance In The UK

I'm on ESA and currently in the support group, which as Rebecca has said you wont be expected to make an attempt to work unless your condition improves. When I first applied for DLA I was turned down, but then my circumstances changed and even after spending 4 months in hospital and being...

    Gutted

well, im sure some of you will remember my previous vents after what happened last year and the court case etc. well, they've been sentenced, neither of them will go to prison. it seems having a girlfriend who has autistic children means you can do what you want these days and get away with...

    Saved by Tegaderm!

I've been meaning to buy some of that stuff to try it out! Someone on here pointed me to somewhere I could buy the rolls cheap but can't find the link now, glad it worked for you! I currently use something called mefix which comes in a roll and is quite handy but its not waterproof

    Pancaking?

I'll have a look at doing that aimes, every time I get a leak it is always starting in the same place, sort of up and to the right of my stoma, although they always happen there when I am lied on my right side at night so I think it's a case of all the stuff finding its way through a crease or...

Getting people to understand your disease

Well first of all, you might want to change the spelling of Chrohns on your site ... ;-) I will have a think about writing something though, The site has a very good point and I think it covers something that a lot of people with Crohns find happens a lot, I know I certainly have, and it can be...

    Pancaking?

A lot more powder as in the skin powder stuff? I just used the same as i always use, I did everything as normal even when changing the bag afterwards, when I took the bag off there was a lot of crap all under it so i can only imagine this had pushed between my skin and the flange and forced it...

    Pancaking?

well I took all my meds as usual in time before eating, and on the friday night we went to pizza hut, but I had exactly the same as I have had previously at pizza hut, my meal routine was a bit sporadic over the weekend i guess but I didn't eat anything different to what I've previously had, and...

    Pancaking?

Well on friday I went away for the first time with my gf to london and stayed over, finally built up the confidence to go in a hotel and share a bed with someone only to wake up in the middle of the night with crap all over the bed with my bag at some point's completely hanging off :( then came...

    Immodium + My Stoma

I had magnesium problems too and was given something called magnasparte, a powder which goes into a cup of water. I was told this is a lot better than taking tablets as it is more easily absorbed. maybe worth trying that?

    Immodium + My Stoma

I'm on the same, I was prescribed loperamide and codeine and have been taking it for about 8 months now. I take 2 mg of loperamide and 30 mg of codeine 4 times a day, roughly about 30 minutes before eating. I have tried without the codeine and things go downhill fast as soon as I stop taking it...

Anyone claimed DLA for CD ?

I first applied early last year and got turned down straight away and tbh I thought that was a fair decision but was worth a go anyway. after a certain incident and lengthy spell in hospital I applied again, this time they spoke to my doctors etc and I was awarded the low level care award...

Is Prednisone Weight Gain Real Weight or Water Weight?

one of the effects is fluid retention, so some of it is "water weight" and i think that may be part of what causes the moon face thing, but like Rebecca says it also increases your appetite a ridiculous amount aswell so some of it will be real weight, I'd say both will play a part, but again...

    Possible temp ileostomy

sorry for my late reply!... My surgeon didn't discuss this with me tbh but I would imagine at first things may be a little hard but as i understand it, When mine is reversed there'll be a good bit of colon left so I would have thought i'd be in a different situation to people who have no colon...

Do your friends ask to see your stoma?

Only one friend has ever seen my bag, but no one besides my sister who was helping me at first has seen my actual stoma. and none of them have asked to see it, 1 or 2 friends have an idea of what it is but I still don't think they quite get it. Sometimes I'd like show them so they can see it for...

    Elasticated stoma waist bands.

Hi Ryan, I have a couple of the Comfizz waistbands, and also one of the vest style ones that they do (although I found mine that's a bit to tight for me now) but the waistbands are great and I wear mine quite a lot when im doing anything active. I don't where it for long enough periods at a time...

    How much/often do you empty?

Bit of a weird one maybe but how full are your bags before you empty them? I seem to be emptying my bag every 3-4 hours with about 100-200 ml in, when the bag is probably about 1/4 to 1/3rd full. But how much can I get away with if I needed to? I'm basically not sure If I'm just emptying my bag...
