Bowel resection NOW Gall bladder op

I had both resection and gall bladder removal during the same surgery. I figured while they were in there, do both. Most painful thing I have ever experienced. I don't know which caused the primary pain. That was over three years ago and have been OK since.

    Extremely loud bowel sounds!

I developed a stricture this years and that's when I started having noises too. Last week I drank some irish mint milk (they make it every St Patricks Day). Loudest sounds I ever heard, sounded like my intestines were percolating. Good thing I was home recovering from a case of the ab cramps!!!

Trying to get solid stools after third resection

Grape Nuts cereal helped a lot to keep my stools solid.

How long are you "out of action" after a resection

I had my gall bladder removed at the same time of the resection surgery. It was 7-8 weeks before my doctor released me back to work. No diet restrictions after being discharged. I had lift restrictions and was not to drive for a week. Big cut in the abdomen means many everyday things - such...

Sticky What to expect after surgery

Not all hospital stays after abdominal surgery are typical of the OP. I was in the hospital for twelve days & didn't get the NG tube until day 6 due to a blockage. Best thing I ever took along was my netbook - I could surf the net over wireless to pass the time.

    Food question

Is Chobani available in your area? That's the greek yogurt I have been eating.

Undiagnosed - does this sound like Crohns? Terrified :(

If it is any comfort, a Crohns attack has one primary symptom that you are not reporting. The only conclusive test is a colonoscopy. More likely you have an IBS than an IBD.

8 days post op bowel resection

When it didn't hurt I slept on my side during post-op. I asked for extra pillow for the side which really helped. I had staples on the incisions and had to be careful that they didn't catch on the robe. Your body has some major healing ahead and you will be fatigued for some weeks. Don't...

Honey & Yogurt relieves abdominal cramps

Had a bout of indigestion and cramps through the night. Honey & yogurt didn't work for that one.

    The importance of regular exercise?

It's not just the germs on the equipment. It's the fungus on the locker room floors. Those can never be clean enough.

    The importance of regular exercise?

I try to stay active and it does help. I won't join a gym because the flare-ups will rob me of my energy/strength and that $$$ into the gym is wasted. Those places are breeding grounds for bacteria/viruses and I have enough trouble trying to stay healthy. When I build my house I am planning...

    Relationships

I haven't had any issues with personal or professional relationships. I am brief with colleagues/family and they don't need to know all the details. If they want to know more they can ask. I keep my boss and immediate family up to date as they are the ones who "need to know".

Question for those who have had surgery. I have Crohns of the ileum

Diagnosed in 2005, in remission until summer 2011. Waited too long to seek help, they removed the diseased ileum and another piping with small rupture in intestine wall. Recovery took a while. The only problems have been blockages due to food binding to adhesives/scar tissue, which is an...

Honey & Yogurt relieves abdominal cramps

Even if it doesn't ease the tightness, the bacteria in greek yogurt is friendly to the intestines. My surgeon recommended it three years ago to keep Crohns in remission.
